well..I tend to stay happy by not associating myself with family and friendship problems! I mean I feel bad for not caring much about what my extended family are doing...or what my friends are having issues with ( i mean I'll listen to them... but try not to get involved too much), ever since I've sort of stoped caring...I've been a happier person :P.

Having fun in my work is called happiness. Otherwise it's an illusion.

Be grateful, not dead.

One "exercise" that I used to do...i should restart I presume, was by a friend of mine: Before you sleep at night, name 2 thinks that happened to you today that are positive for which you are really grateful."

Good thing about this is you don't have to lie like: o i am grateful for my child or my parents.... So i'd say the best thing happened to me today was finding new shrimp stash.. This would generally avalanche to "higher" ones such as "my child or my parents".

In Islamic way, I guess you can "shukr" for all the good deeds. I know it's "by law" and "ritualistic" to do "shokrana aday" after eating, but I always felt when one says "shukr al-Hamdullillah" after a hearty meal he should be honest about it. (Also my father used to say: if you don't do such-n-such Allah naraz hobe & also, that if you do "shukr" Allah will give more...

Bumping this because I hated the day at first: cloudy, no money, no stimulants, and had a big family fight. All of a sudden I feel tranquil. (albeit i was reading the children's story tao of pooh where the watered down explanations: A master can stay content and calm under any situation.
Look up vineger tasters...

It's all perspectives really. (But as i find, it's all fine in theory, but harder to apply.....) hence practice. Meditation masters will tell you, just like muscle building, emanating alpha, theta, gamma waves can like a skill which needs to be honed.

Peace out.

Zee

dear friends i figure i bring this thread up again as bd is named the 11th happiest country in the world. this is the problem i think... most ppl in bd are happy cuz a lot of ppl dont know what they are missing. its like a child born a retard... and grows up till 40 yet a retard and has a brain of 5 year old.... he is happy but the ppl sorrounding him taking care of him are sad because they realize this kid for 40 years didnt get to experience many great things in life...

that brings to my point, i am not a retard, so i realize what i am missing, and hence i think i am unhappy......

What is happiness ?? How to be happy ??

You guys can watch this movie called "Into the Wild" (2008), in case some of you haven't.

Based on a true story, it is a man's adventure into the wilderness to soul search, know himself and to find the meaning of life. The movie sheds some thoughtful insight into life, happiness, loneliness, relationship, materialism etc.

Watch it if you have some time.

It's quit simple actually. The root of, almost, all happiness is money. Get a pay-rise, play the lottery, invest in stock market, trade in forex market and so forth. Find a way to make more money.

I know you might roll yours and come up with the old cliches likes "Oh! Money can't buy you happiness". I'd say you are right. Money can't buy you happiness but money can certainly bring you happiness.
