A call for civility and common decency for us sports fans

We are mostly Bangalis. We are emotional and hotheaded and we get carried away very easily. As easily as we adulate our heroes and elevate them to lofty grandeur, we tear them from their pinnacle and unleash on them our pent up hate devoid of 'manners'.

Yes, we are hypercritical and it's alright to be hypercritical. But is it alright to be rude and insulting to someone? When did it become fashionable to denigrate someone just because you do not like him?

Just look through the posts in the Ashraful thread. How many of you can truly say - yes, I have been decent in my post(s).

Remember the Henry James standard. Only three things in life are important, James said:

Bashing is ok. But not when it goes to an unreasonable level.
But Ash bashing here in BC is anything but reasonable.
People openly pray for his bad performance when he gets picked.
Then he is damned to hell, whatever his performance is.

It's alright to criticize players constructively but not alright to abuse players verbally. At the end of the day, these guys are our guys and I'm sure their trying their best against the best teams in the world. So it's best to be supportive when they're doing good. When the players are not doing good, we can constructively criticize players but again not go overboard.

This thread is getting hijacked by ash lovers/haters again. the message is not about ash... BC fans does the same for other cricketers coaches and what not...

A good call. BC needs support from everyone. We are expecting lot of new guests and members here. We need to give them a positive memorable experience.

Thank You Doc. I would like to extend this to all human beings. Especially those who have already died. Be it political leaders from our country or from a different one. Using foul language doesn't make one look good, nor does his/her arguments makes a better case.

Controling hatred and channeling them to a positive response is very difficult and not many can do. Decency can not be bought, it can only be nurtured. Indecency is related to upbringing and association.

We love Ash too...but we criticize his performance, not him individually. If he does not hurt fans by his unacceptable performance, fans will not hurt him, at least sometimes.

But yes, in criticizing him we need to show civility and decency.

Amar kintu kono dosh nai... Ami ei site-er ashe pashe diyeo ghuro ghuri kori nai last few weeks....looks like all those Ash threads clean... nothing is there.... esssh ektur jonno sob moja miss korlam.
