BCB retains Mushfiqur as captain, Jurgensen as coach
BCB retains Mushfiqur as captain

Mushfiqur Rahim and Shane Jurgensen have had their tenures extended © AFP
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has retained Mushfiqur Rahim as captain until December 31, 2013. Mushfiqur had resigned his post following Bangladesh's ODI series loss to Zimbabwe in May. Later, Mushfiqur had admitted that his decision was taken in haste and was a "mistake", and he should have discussed the matter with the BCB first. The BCB had said it would be investigating the decision, and would hold talks with Mushfiqur once the team returned from Zimbabwe.

DHAKA, Wednesday 03 July 2013
Media Release
Major outcomes from adjourned Ad hoc Executive Committee Meeting of 13 May 2013 held on 03 July 2013
Shane Jurgensen has been appointed Head Coach of the Bangladesh National Team until 31 March 2015. This appointment is effective from 01 March 2013. Jurgensen had been performing the role of interim Head Coach of the National Team since the home series against the West Indies in November 2012.
The tenure of the National Selection Committee, which expired on 30th June 2013, has been extended by three months (effective from 01 July 2013).
Mushfiqur Rahim will continue as Captain of the National Cricket Team until 31 December 2013. Vice captain Mahmudullah also retains his position up to the same period.
National Team Physiotherapist Vibhav Singh and Analyst Nasir Ahmed have received one year extensions to their contracts.
The Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2012-13 will begin from 29 August 2013. The player transfers/recruitment programme will be held on 25 July. Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) Chairman Mohammed Jalal Yunus said: “The decision to start the League at the end of August was taken after considering the fact that a good number of cricketers will be unavailable during the first few weeks of that month due to overseas tours of the Bangladesh A, Under 23 and Under 19 teams.”
The BCB Election dates will be announced within the next 30 days.
The family of deceased former National Cricketer Mazharul Hoque Mridul will receive a contribution of BDT five (05) lac from the BCB.

1. Bad Move: Should have given SJ one year performance based contract.
2. Selectors Panel needs more people
Ps: Everything else seems pretty much organised.

I am not sure about Shane. Can he with Cory and Saqlain reproduce the same results that Pont, Siddons and Fontain did. Specially when NZ would be so high strengthened with Vettori and Guptil, boosted by the series win against England in England.

Very good decision at this point.
With world cup just about year and half away, you need a stable set of support staff as well. Enough drama with head coach for the past couple of years.
Find a new head coach: 4 months, let his get used to : another 3 months, he likes this he doesnt like that : another 3 months, and next thing you know the world cup is knocking at the door with the coach still haven't figured out why Abul likes to be called Raju.
Just need a good batting coach now.

This is what Shane had to say:
http://www.espncricinfo.com/banglade...ry/647479.html
And this is what Ian had to say in the comments section:
Quote:
Genuinely thrilled for Shane. He is a top bloke and I wish him all the success in the world.
I don't feel the BCB had many options here given the mess surrounding the BPL, the delayed DPL, the T20 debacle over venues for 2014, the ad hoc committee, the captains resignation etc etc etc. It is simply easier to delay bridges you don't need to cross (like Head Coach searches and Captaincy) with no appetite to yet again advertise and be let down by the quality of applications.
For all that, Shane has done a decent job and he is popular with the players. The expectations of Bangladesh Cricket are extremely modest so simply having stability is genuinely an important goal right now. Just not being outplayed is a target, and even if a series is lost, as long as the side can win the odd game or two or be competitive, then this will be seen by many as progress.
We are unlikely to witness the 2010 'Banglawash' again but as long as BD isn't losing, it is winning.
(Pont is a former Bangladesh bowling coach)

I have to respectfully disagree with the following:
Quote:

As a fanbase, we have sky-high expectation. But, if the sentiment seems to echo the afore-cited version in Tigercamp, then BCB and Tigers must be in a sorry state. I don't think "just not being outplayed is a target"; we have trodden that path far too many times, and have made inroads by beating Windies in a series and putting on quite the competition against SL, whereas 'Banglawash' is of a thing of the past.
Sorry Ian, but can't be on same page on this one.

SJ has earned this. But sadly we will continue having doubts in his ability and shell him whenever we perform badly. I guess we will never be able to get used to the idea of not having a high profile coach.
I do hope BCB finds a good batting coach, and gives a lot of time to the coaching team to work on the players. Not just before a series, also during off season so that the coaches can actually work on the technical aspects of our players. There is very little coaches can do just two weeks prior to a series.

I agree. SJ has had mroe than enough success to retain the post.

Short-term appointment 'very wrong': Mushfiqur
Daily Star Online
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) continued with their practice of appointing captain series by series as they decided to retain Mushfiqur as captain of the national team but only until December 31 this year, which meant the little man has to design ...

A. Mushfiqur is right
B. I like our coach a lot, but feel he is still not aggressive enough and not quite the right fit for such preparation for such a huge tournament!
I would love to be proved wrong by him though .

Point B is quite debatable. Some coaches click by being tough and disciplinarian, some click with a softer more motivational approach. Although one would be tempted to say SJ falls in the second category, we dont quite know what happens behind the scenes.
But one very key thing he mentioned was to develop a culture of working hard, good work ethic etc. Now whether you achieve this with the tough stance or friendly stance doest matter, as long as we get the end result.
