Also, Tamim Iqbal is not in the Test squad. Interesting.

So, selectors have decided to go backwards after deciding to pick Pilot over Mushfiqur Rahim.
May be Mushfiq failed to impress with his keeping ability. Aftab is paying the price for not converting 30-40's into bigger scores. Such a fine batsman, he is wasting himself. A bit surprised not to see Razzak in the squad.
From the squad my playing XI
1. Javed Omar
2. Shahriar Nafees
3. Habibul Bashar
4. Shakib Al Hasan
5. Mohammad Ashraful
6. Tushar Imran
7. Khaled Mashud
8. Mashrafe Mortaza
9. Mohammad Rafiq
10. Enamul Haque Jr.
11. Syed Rasel
Failure of JO or SN in the first test should bring back Mehrab Jr. in the playing XI for the second test.

Yes, Plz keep JO in the test squad only. Never ever want to see him in ODI. Dont care if he makes double century.

Rubbish team.
There is absolutely no justification for not including Tamim and Mushfiq. Mushfiq could play just as a specialist batsman.

Well, I dont think any sane person should expect that Aftab, Mushfiq, Tamim would be in the test squad. They are by no mean for 5 day matches. Mushfiq/Tamim was non-existent before this world cup. Aftab knows well that he can only score.. Test cricket, is not about how much you can score. Its more about sessions, innings, strategy and patience. Quitting the lecture, I think the fact that Raj is not there should be the question...But really, we dont have any others that qualifies better for the test squad. Though, I would want to see Mehrab jr. in the final 11.

WTF?
Aftab is not there an Tushar Imran is? Someone must have been smoking some real good stuff.
The worst team from this selection panel.

Aftab is a must. Let the kids learn. This is not good. I do not beleive that
we have that many talents to make a complete different team.
Can understand the logic for Mushi being left out.
Are they trying to promote socialism so that everybody remains happy..

Defensive batting does not mean good test batting. In most cases, aggressive batting is the best kind of test batting. Our best day in the test cricket did not came from defensive batting.
In tests, batsmen get better reward for their shots. Without any pressure of maintaining RR, aggressive batsmen are more likely to be successful in test cricket. Almost every test batting great was agressive batsman.
JO is not test class. Mehrab jnr didn't do really well in the A team matches. Bashar and SN is out of form. I don't understand how can they justify leaving out all 3 of Tamim, Mushfiq Aftab out of the squad.

I dont see why Mushfiq is not on the squad ..... Pilot has been a very god wicket-keeper for us but he has grown old now just as Bashar and Belim and also his batting doesn't come anywhere near Mushfiq's batting and thats one of our most important issues so I really think Mushy should have been in the test squad!!! I also prefer Aftab over Tushar but his recent performances has not been that good so I guess Tushar does deserve to be in the test squad (May be I am wrong).Razzaq should have been in the test squad too!!!I am not quite sure about Tamim though. Our selectors are taking us back I think chosing Pilot over Mushy!!!!!Mushy deserves the spot in the test squad after how he played in the one days!!!!

That's a very reasonable selection.
Aftab - don't have the right tempermant yet
Tamim - no reason to rush him yet. he need to play ODI for at least another year.
Rajjak - very good ODI bowler (he is more like a medium pacer), but in test he will not be able to pick up wicket as an specialist bowler. He lacks turn and flight variation.
Musfik - He should have been picked over Pilot. I hope they are dropping him because he had a hectic 3 months and it is not wise to put so much pressure on somebody who is only 18 or 19.

Bangladesh announce test squad for the two-match GrameenPhone series against India
12 May 2007
Bangladesh selectors have announced the 14 member test squad for the two-match GrameenPhone test series against India which starts from May 18 right after the ODI series.
Former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mashud, who lost his place in the ODI side, have retained his place in the test squad as selectors preferred him over Mushfiqur Rahim, who is considered as a long term prospect for Bangladesh.

This is the last selection of current panel of selectors, they played it safe by selecting Pilot over Mushfiq.
Avoided media scrutiny.

Before making his test debut Rafique was also a very good Odi bowler...but when Selectors introduced him in the test squad...then everyone knows wat Rafique is capable of...hopefully Razzaq will also get chance in the test squad sooner or later

Guys,, lets play this again: This is a Test Series? Not an ODI series again against India? Why on earth would Tamim/Aftab be in that team? Tamim only played 12 First class match..and for opening, how does he get preference over someone of Shahrier or Javed? test cricket is all about experience,,,, not the flamboyancy and hitting and ticking the score; Its all about wickets, wickets and wickets.. after tea breaks/lunch breaks, sessions etc. Rarely you have allrounders that are good test cricketers as well. From Lara, Murli, Kevin P., Pointing, Inzamam, Dravid,, its all about specialists. The fear should be that we dont have a backup pacers, who is backing up Mashrafee/Shahadat..Do you guys want to go back to 2001 by selecting a young team for TEST squad where the players didnt know what to do in the 2nd innings and bowlers were cluessless and tired after bowling 180 overs? Its going to be hot, humid and turning,,,,, I think we have a concern with the bowlers not with the batting selection.

All the other names are considerable. But where is Mushi? He is a test batsman material and is in great tough as i feel.

it is a great team here is my logical input as to why...
1. exclusion of aftab ahmed and tamim iqbal was a great decision becasue both are prettty aggressive players who are well suited for odis and 20/20, but for tests, we all should know that they are not patient enough to judge every ball and make reasonable shot selections...(ashraful has the same problem but occasionally he learns from it but after making everyone happy he reverts to his old misguidings...)
2. based on the squad, this is the best batting lineup we can come up with in terms of putting a big total and not geting out below 300(that would be dissapointing). habibul can play tests with a relaxed mood than in odis because there is no need to worry about the run rate and batsmen like imran, saleh has great potential to become test leaders(based on the simulation game cricket captain 2006).
3. this lineup would be very questionable for odis but great for tests, shahadat is included,
4.mehrab jr. and enamul jr. are one of the side players of bangladesh. we should give every potential player reasonable chance to succeed, and for that to happen, bashar has to retire soon from cricket(sorry, man....)
5. hehe on other threads i praised mushfiq... but he is not ready for tests yet, needs a great deal of improvement on his keeping...then we can talk about him in the tests ...
inclusion of mashud was a reasonable choice, i am sure he is happy as well
abdur razzak's exclusion may be because the selectors want to give other players a chance and just want to keep him as a second option for tests but the first option for odis..
