^^ Yet he can't find a regular place in the U/19 team. See, height is not everything.

Do you still remember Shafaq Al Zabir?

Yes but I don't want to watch a guy 5'8" trundling in as a fast bowler. I know we won't have guys who are 6'4" but let's at least get guys who are 6'. Fizz should be the shortest we allow on the team as a seamer unless Malcom Marshall randomly pops up at BKSP.

^^ If Sri Lankan selectors had the same mentality as yours, Kulasekara would never get the chance to rise to the top of ICC ODI ranking. Thank God, most people are not as narrow sighted as you are.

McInnes and Pont both focused too much on biomechanics, and tried to make fast bowlers out of guys like Shafaq, Manik, Atul Sharma, etc. Their failed trials showed fast bowling is much more than physique or height.

We have to work with what we have. Unlike West Indies, there is not too many 6+ feet pacers in our cricket arena. We don't need ATGs, we need pacers who will help us win more matches. We should follow Sri Lanka's example and develop pacers who will be effective in our conditions (where bounce is not a big factor anyway).

I dont ever recall Kulasekera being ranked #1 and I just looked his average up...its 33+ which is nothing extraordinary. Regardless the number of wins he delivered with the ball could probably be counted on the fingers of a single hand.

No matter how effective he might be, having a Sujon type 5-4 baitta open the bowling with 75 mph deliveries is not the kind of brand we should aim to advertise. I'm not arguing that we should have a Shoaib or Waqar...but at the same ti e if the Pakistanis could do it, why not us one day?

Its like opening the batting with two guys with strike rates of under 50 and expecting to win ODIs or T20s. You dont have high strike rate batsmen? Fine, start looking. First 10 guys didnt pan out, go to eleventh and the twelfth.

Taskin didn't pan out. Fine. Go to Ebadat and Mishu. If they are also busts, find Ehadat and Tishu. So and so forth.

Young Hasan Mahmud showed plenty to be hopeful about today. Tall, with a nice action, this 18 years old already clocked at 139.3 KPH!

That’s not bad, seems to have promise then.

Our U-19s have never gained pace. Im not sure if thats the case for other nations or not.

Nazmul was 128 as a 17 yo, same pace at 26.

Shahadat was 130-140 as a 18 yo, same pace at 30.

Rubel was 140-145 as a 19 yo, same pace now at 27.

Taskin was 140-145 at 19, same pace now.

Fizz was bowling 130 on debut but got up to 140 a few weeks later. But i think he was just bowling within himself rather than suddenly getting quicker.

^^ They all picked up some shoulder/back injury early in their career. Perhaps that hindered them from ramping up.

Then again, all the pacers around the world pick up injury early in their careers. Somehow ours don't do well to recover from them, or to progress any further after the injury(s).

Pace is not the problem these days, plenty of pacers going around BD bowling 130km+ and trying close to the 140s or going over the 140 mark.

It’s the skill level, stamina, consistency, mindset/attitude and mental fortitude that is the difference. Can’t succeed as a fast bowler just by running up and banging it in, evens the guys with serious pace these days still need skill.

Mishu takes a new Bangladeshi List A record of 8 for 40 vs Abahani in only his 3rd match at this level. Already has a first class 5-fer in his bag too. Good prospect. Listed as a "right arm medium" so I wonder how slow he is. But he is 6'1" as per cricinfo.

Wonder where Nayeem hasan was fielding, 4 of mishu's wickets were caught by him, guessing slip.
