Default Srilanka

this upcomming tour is very important to us to see weather we can carry on after a good second half of the tour and the team is developing nicly.

these are the backbone of the team for when we play in asia

1) JO
2) sharier
3) ?
4) ash
5) basher
6) aftab
7) pilot
8) rafique
9) ?
10) jr
11) mortaza

all we need now to compete well with other countries is a number 3 batsman and another quickie

I will take both Rajin and nafis iqbal for No 3 position and trytehm alternatively. For No 9, pity we still don't have a better option than Tapash. However, I will pick Nazmul as a stand by. I don't believe in so called 'ODI specialist' for a team like BD.

Speaking for myself, I'd be happy going JO, Nafees, Ash, Bash, Aftab, Pilot, Rafique, Enamul, Shahdat, ?, Mortaza

But the key is variety - you've got a medium pace option in Aftab, a pair of SLAs, a genuine shorts-busts quick and a good quick in Masri, but a left-arm seamer, a leg spinner (either hand) or a right arm offie would add needed variety.

Remember ! We will play in Srilanka not in England. Condition will be hot and slow and spinning wicket , not bouncy like England. So there is no meaning to play JO in ODIs. He will be in Tests like before. Rajin Saleh will come back in both form because his record is very good in Sub-continent. We alsO should reconsider Shahadat, in place of mediocore bowlers like Tapash or Nazmul. We should not judge Rajib so early only because he gave 100+ runs in 12 overs in his debut. Still he is a good prospect, needs experince, so he will play.
Also Rahim should get chance. And of course in ODI Rafiq will open the inns with nafees.

Test Team

1. JO
2. Abir
3. Rajin/ Nafees/ Rahim
4. Ash
5. Bashar
6. Aftab
7. Pilot
8. Rafiq
9. Enmul
10. Mash'fe
11. ? / Rajib/ Nazmul/ Tapash/ ?

ODI

1. Rafiq
2. Shahriar/ Nafees/ Rajin
3. Aftab
4. Ashraful
5. Bashar
6. Rahim/ Rajin
7. Pilot
8. a new allrounder/ Rana
9. Enamul
10. Mortaza
11. ? / Rajib/ Nazmul/ Tapash

If Tapash and Nazmul are mediocre (which they are), I don't know what that makes Shahadat or how that makes him deserve a place ahead of them. I'm not much concerned about the Quickies. We need just one more solid pacer to support Mashrafe. It will be a hard find, so we'll have to keep trying within our limited resources. The SL pitches are typically slow and dusty. I'd definitely like to see Enamul jr play alongside Rafique. Also, Rajin will make his comeback. His record in homelike conditions are quite good and suits his style of play. Now the dilemma is whether to play the little Rahim or not. I guess we'll have to wait for the practice matches and see how he fares.

To be frank I don’t know why everyone is against Tapash so much, it is right he gets hit around a lot but he gets the wickets, And he is faster than Mashrafi. Someone got to work with him to fix his line, and we got ourselves a pretty good fast bowler.

JO will play the test, no doubt about it, but in my mind JO is a dilemma in ODI. If he doesn't play we might ended up with a score of 25/5. If he do play, we will never cross the 220 line. Which is not enough to win. In other words, JO is insurance, and not having JO is gamble.

with JO we'll be having better looking lose but unlikely win. without JO we'll either win or lose badly. Its a judgement call. Since we just have some good show and don't have to worry about press jumping on us for a while, i'd think its time to gamble. so, no jo for opeing slot.

ODI team:

01. Shahriar Nafis: No question asked after good show.
02. Nafis Iqbal: Hope he'll find his form back by then.
03. Aftab Ahmed: He should be at number 3 as he seems more comfortable here.
04. Mohammad Ashraful: Ahead of bashar.
05. Habibul Bashar: So he is not facing the new ball.
06. Rajin Saleh: If you think his days are over, he'll show you soon how to bounce back.
07. Khaled Masud: No question asked.
08. Mohammad Rafique: No question asked.
09: Manjarul Rana: Stays ahead of enamul in ODI.
10. Mashrafee Motaza: No question asked.
11. Nazmul/Taposh: Empty Slot as it seems, don't make much of a difference.

in test

JO replaces Iqbal
Enamul Replaces Rana.

Taposh is not any sort of international claibre. He is really very poor bowler. TO my opinion, Rajib should get another chance. He is a true fast bowler potential of oour country. Many of you may disagree and the stats are also not supporting my point of view.. i guess.. I just believe the man who is the architect of majority of BD national and A team players. Richard. I was never in in favour of him playing against some of the best players agaisnt fast bowlers in the world. Nevertheless....I really believe in him and he will bounce back if he get one more chance. Fast bowlers are not made.. they are born and Rajib is one such. Give him some time and BD will enjoy the success from him......... To be honest.. I am 100% sure about him (may be bit from the heart here..). Taposh... he is simply not good enough to play in the international match.

One more point.. may one of the alrounder from present U-19 team (eg Saqib or Russel) could be tried in the next tour. God.. i miss Richard so much!!..If he were here.. he could have really provide us with some really good players within 2 years. God bless him.

Everybody is talking about Squads. I will talk about something else.

One of the biggest problems that BD team will face is again what I may call "Geting Started". This is what always happens when BD starts to play in a tour. Because of the gap between the current and the pervious tour.... they kinda lose the tempo and reach a lower level of concentration. For this reason, at the beginning of any tour, BD team struggles to put up a good fight.. but hence eventually do better in the later part of the tour. This same thing happened in this England tour also.

In Srilanka... it will be important to stay focussed from the very beginning and get a good start as a balanced team.

We were 19/3 and 75/5 against the Aussies and in 19/3 Javed got out for a golden duck [Thank you Allah for my prayers to have been removed early], yet we scored 250/8.
So, Javed Omar is not an insurance. Also, I can say it with conviction, if I play 150 balls against any of the team in the world my score will be more than 81. Trust me, so Javed Omar is like an unhealed Hemmaroid for the Bangladesh Team.

Again, I donot want a glorious defeat. I want an exciting win and that require courage of one's conviction. I say it with conviction, JO is not a solution for Bangladesh. Period. Athar Bhai take that one more time, please!

i agree with you for the most part, except Aftab should be @ 3...he plays the new ball very well and i saw him struggle with the spinners when he is @ 6...

for the seamer, i think Rajib should be given another chance, he has the height, the speed and all he need is just variation...

Of Course he is solid. He has all the natural capabilty to become a wold class fast bowler. You cannot judge one 17 year old bowler only because he was so expensive in his first ever innings.

Why keep tryin with limited resource ? Don't you see A bunch of promosing and hugely talented fast bowlers waiting on the sideline and many more spreading around the country?

To win in Srilanka, we need another pace bowler like Mortoza. But how we will get another quality pace bowler within short time?

By playing with A team in England, will Rajib be upto the mark.

JO prolly wont be on the ODI squad, we all know he had the series of his life in england. he IS STILL a test specialist.

rajin, nafis and JO will battle for the right handed opening slot.

aftab should be the 3 in ODI, ashraful or bashar (if he is together) in tests.

tapash and nazmul should alternate as the quickies, until talha or shahadat is ready.

for the first time in our history we can REALISTICALLY expect one ODI win per series.

we have one at least 1 ODI in our last 3 series, and have won 5 ODIs in our last 3 series total.

Rajb depends too much on raw pace, Sri Lankan pitches are not going to be much of help for him. Remember how Talha got hammered there?

Selectors can either stick with Tapash or pick left arm pacer SK Rasel (given that he will get some success in England).

I am actually looking forward for Kapali making a come back in Sri Lanka.

No surprising at all! I'm not a Rajin hater. I think he deserves few more chances before we totally kick him out of the team. He usually does well in subcontinent conditions, so he has a good chance to get his form back. And if he fails again, then we must drop him. Same thing for Tushar. One more chance, and failure means getting dropped. However, if Alok gets runs in England tour (highly unlikely), then I would like to see him instead of Tushar.

The "surprise" is the inclusion of Rana in my team. Although I'm a permanent member of Rana hate club, I consider himself more or less useful in our current ODI team as specialist bowler in spinning pitches.

JO is the remedy against batting collapse of Bangladesh....our much discussed disease in the batting. When other batsmen will learn to play sensibly without losing wickets in pairs, his job will be done with all the respect for his service for BD team.

Can't agree with you C.Boy.

Solid Pacer = Pace+Fair bit of accuracy!
(not just pace+wayward lines)
Thats where Shahadat falls short.

Let me quote our Best bowler, Masree's reply when he was asked why he is only bowling around 82-85 mph.... his reply was "Well.. I can bowl even faster than this.. but I don't want my line/accuracy destroyed by that. And in this England tour... that is what I have been working on...my accuracy" He said this in his prothom alo interview few days back.

Now do you get what makes a solid pacer? Mashrafee is the best because of this thinking head of his. And Shahadat needs to learn it also... about how to balance between pace and accuracy! Rajib is a potential bowler no doubt... but he still has to prove that he is capable of learning the final tips!!
