But, he is set and seems to be in good touch (apart from wafting away at a few outside the off) -should get to a ton.

Not basing this just on this inning. I've thought he's the perfect #4 for a few years now. I was also right about Mushfiq and believed he would be a key player even in his early days; and people who doubted his abilities back then can't think of a squad without him these days. Same issue there - playing a very capable top/middle order batsman way too low down the order (#8) for years and expecting 50s and 100s.

Riyad better scores some runs, or he might joins the Ashrafool club soon!

As for Roach, i think with all due respect your notion of him is outdated, we played Australia earlier this year after Roach had a shocking period in tests which included that Bang game you mentioned, and vs Australia he looked back to his best and ended up taking a 10fer, in that series he got the most wickets and hasn't looked back since, getting wickets vs England and then NZ, and lets be honest those two teams batting line-ups are better than Bangs,
As for the game, we're gonna need to come out blazing in this second session, break this partnership and it could collapse quickly, i guess we'll have to wait and see!! .
|
Well yeah in Tests Narine is going to be tamed if he plays on Mirpur Road and the batsman don't play shots. And what about not playing shots, he's still going for 4 an over isn't he? You can say that about Permaul, not Narine. Wasn't this pitch even flatter when WI were batting? But thats when we were hearing DMan state that Narine & Permaul were going to run through us. Remember Bishoo too was hyped...ICC rookie of the year, where is he now?
As for Roach, did he start swinging the ball on a dead pitch like this - like Edwards could have - in his Aussie 10fer? Did get shape off the deck? If not well he would have figures like what Best has today, because they seem to similar styles. Roach was hammered last time he was here, sure he might have been off form, but I highly doubt he's morphed in 13 months time.
At any rate, WI will likely win this game, but this session is the crucial one coming up. Determines whether WI can declare early on Day 4 and give themselves 5 sessions to bowl us out or whether Bangladesh can shave WI lead to the point that WI have to bat another 3 sessions to set a defendable target.

I saw that but had my Mute on because of you know who Kufa. Was thinking what the heck is going on in the middle of the over?

Vice captain has a 30+ average unlike your golden boy's ever stagnant 22.

I think a alot of people are right. Naeem has done beautifully and he has the single best temperament for this format. But he does have his technical limitations...on a pitch with the ball moving about against an express bowler he likely won't last long at all. The good thing is with teh FTP and general trends in Test cricket, he will probably never see such a pitch even if he gets 100 test caps.
Mushfiq on the other hand is afar more technically competant fellow and a more assured stroke player also. But we finally have a middle order that is decent (legendary by BD standards) even compared to G8 sides.
I think SN still has a place in teh side, Junaid should be a 12th man slip catcher...and Riyad will have to fight for a place.
Just imagine 2-3 years from now when Anamul and Soumya come into the side, domestic records indicate they're better than even the guys we have now (barring Tamim, SHakib, Mushy, Nasir).
We just need some bowlers.

If I am not incorrect, we reached 400 in test cricket few times, not sure about 450.
It would be good for us if we are atleast 400/5 or 6 by the end of the day and still have some batsmen in the middle.

Both batsmen show how to play Test cricket. Excellent fight by our batsmen.
