Default What would be the indicator for a sucessful World Cup by BD in 2007?

All the teams want to win the worldcup: I mean about 5 to 8 top teams.

For BD and some others, winning the cup would be too much to expect, but they can do something to reinforce their position as a test playing nation.

What, in your opinion, is a good indicator of success?

Please vote.

For me, its moving to the next round...the super 8..
and to do so, we have to win at least twice in the group stages.. which would be a great feat on its own.. preferably beating the crap out of india and Bermuda...

if we can make it the top 8, im sure it would be an inspiration for further wins ( may be upset to rest of the world)... but either way you call, i'll take it...

Exactly my feeling. A meaningful poll after a long time.

Good poll Kamini.

My usual choice would be beating India, so if we pull that off and beat Bermuda, which we should anyway, our WC success would be to advance to the next round.

i dont know the probability of going to the next round but even if we beat one of the giants, there is a big chance that still wont make it to the next round cuz of the net R.R and all the other technicalities. So my Success will be beating either of the giants (and of course outperform Bermuda).

Going to the second round would be nice. Less than that would probably mean losing against India and Srilanka.

BD gets to play 6 more games if they can make it to super-8!
But a good display in the group matches is the key: even if they lose. Only 3 votes for that option so far, including mine. So members are not very realistically thinking.

How good is Bermuda?

BD fighting and losing in the group stage is definitely realistic and most probable, but nevertheless it doesn't show "success" at any real level. because at some point you have to go from fighting to actually winning, and we have been at this level for 2 years now.

the situation is analgous to india and winning the world cup. indian fans, team, pundits, and critics would be dissappointed with anything less than india winning the WC. of course that is not realistic given Australia can not be ruled out now, Sri Lanka are a dark horse, RSA stock is going sky high, and india are untested overseas. but everyone in the indian camp will regard anything less than a championship as a failure.

so going to the super 8 for us is equivalent to india or any other major team winning the trophy. thats our WC right there. those extra 6 ODIs at time when ODIs are scarce, is better than any trophy. just beat india and/or sri lanka, and bangladesh have *won* the WC right there.

very well said AF.
Going to the second round itself is winning the world cup for us.

There is a chance factor in ODI games: so anything can happen in one game and that might decide the fate of a team as far as qualification to the super 8 round is concerned.
However, big names will be very determined as this is the most important tournamnet. Chances of an upset is there but minimal.
