Default If you were Mash now...

You know you have been under performing.

You know you are not bowling your full quota or even getting close to it. Even SS has to come in and finish your overs. In batting, you are not providing much value either.

You know criticisms have been mounting.

So what do you do? Do you sit out the last game and do something unprecedented -- that is to bench yourself as the captain in the biggest stage? Or do you try not to disrupt the team cohesion and just keep carrying on.

It is not easy decision for Mash. It feels like an extremely difficult one.

what would you do if you were Mash? how do you handle the situation?

p.s. has a captain ever benched himself in the history of the WC?

He should bench himself. We are out of the tournament. Give a guy like Rahi a game, and with it, some valuable exposure

Give a strong pep talk and gallafy all players like in Invictus. Then call Papon and ask him to give a closed door dhetani to the players before the Pakistan match.

Prepare a retirement speech if Pakistan game is last.

If I was Mash I would have put aside my ego and benched myself long ago with the excuse of injury to the world knowing the team needs another specialist bowler/batsman who can do the job, the team should always come first. It cost us dearly in the end , but few people will notice that because we are blinded by what he has done in the past and injuries

No, not bench himself. No point now. Mashrafe has to play the last game and should be his last game unless BCB decides to give him a one last farewell ODI in Dhaka upcoming home ODI season.

This might be his last ever for Bangladesh. He should play and that too it being at Lords - the home of cricket. What a stadium to retire from international cricket.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea, to distract many things, especially from media bashing, if he announced bis retirement next conference. Which will take some of the focus away from the team which might be good as they are humans too and they too been under pressure from expectations.

BCB, Rhodes, Senior players won't say anything to Mash. They have left it on him.

If he retires now, it will create unnecessary drama before the Pak match. That will be the headline. The team may feel lost and end up losing to Pak.

If he stays, maybe the other 10 players will give their 110% to give their leader a fitting farewell.

But then once again we are playing with 10 men and have to ask Mossaddek/Soumya to finish his overs.

I wonder if the seniors will have a talk with him behind closed doors or not.

Let's play the next match and let Mashrafe retire. He has no reason to stay longer. He doesn't deserve much of a farewell either, just simple one.

The damage has already been done , we can probably beat Pak with him in the side playing only as captain but it is not good enough in reaching semis. He should have benched himself after the England game.

Just look at what other semi finalists had as the captain

Kane Williamson
Virat Kohli
Aaron Finch
Eoin Morgan

It is hard to be a successful team when your captain is a passenger in the side

May be he can retire in front of home crowd by playing one more ODI in BD. It may also give him a chance to get 2 more wickets and retire with 100 wickets as captain.

The way he is bowling in this world cup he will need 16 matches to get 2 wickets

He should just announce retirement before the Pak match. I don’t understand why our players would be down. Are they not professionals? And is Mash their nanny? He should receive a guard of honour in Lords and may he have a prosperous life in politics. He did our country proud in sports but now it’s time to make us proud by taking our nation further

Well...you know...at least the man retired when he could from Tests and T20s.

You will have to literally beat Rahim with a broomstick out of the cricket field before he retires from even one format! Straight trash!

Right now, even Soumya is a much better bowler than Mash is. If he cares to help the team win against Pakistan, he should sit out on pretext of injury, and let Miraz back in the team.

Let him play the last match. But he should retire from international cricket after that. He wont get a better opportunity to retire in home of cricket Lords.

I think he will play the Pak match. Then will announce his retirement at the post match ceremony. He won’t announce it before because of the distraction.

He wont retire. The dude is selfish and thinks about himself. The more he can stay on your TV screens, the more money he earns and the more vote he gets which can push him higher up the ranks with his Hasina Apa.

What Odi series do we have next? At home?
If at home then that should be the series to retire
