BCB to send team to Pak
Quote:
There were questions over whether the team would be sent to Pakistan due to security concerns but the decision was finalised during the recent Asian Cricket Council meeting in Lahore.

In that meeting, Nazmul Hasan was named as the new president of the ACC.

“Our team will take part in the Emerging Cup and our first round games will take place in Pakistan. The tournament is jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka and we are hoping that we will send our team by the first week of December,” BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told reporters yesterday.

According to Nizamuddin, the board is waiting for the government order (GO).

BD U/23 Squad:
Nurul Hasan (c, wk), Mosaddek Hossain (vc), Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mizanur Rahman, Shafiul Islam, Zakir Hasan, Saif Hassan, Yasir Ali, Tanvir Islam, Afif Hossain, Nayeem Hasan, Shoriful Islam, Qazi Onik Islam, Khaled Ahmed, Mohor Sheikh.

I would have preferred to see Ebadat in place of Shafiul. Walsh not doing a good job grooming younger pacers.

Little known Tanvir Islam from Barisal is a surprise inclusion I guess. He is an SLA who picked up 22 wickets last DPL, playing for Khelaghar. Being the only SLA in the squad, I guess his inclusion in the playing XI is pretty much guaranteed.

Like everyone.. Shafiuls inclusion makes no sense.. this spot could have gone to Ibadat, Rony, Al Amin, Rahi... All of them wouldve been better candidates.

Tanvir has been amongst the top wicket-takers for the past 2 seasons of DPL.

^^That's true, he has taken 28 wickets for Khelaghar in 2017 DPL. I guess I have not paid attention to him since he plays for Khelaghar.

Bowling average 19 after two seasons is impressive!

Yeasin Arafat Mishu also seems to be neglected by BCB just like Ebadat. Even more so, given Ebadat is always in the BCB XI's and A teams.

Hope Shorif does well.

I would have preferred Taskin/Ebadat in place of Shafiul. I don't know why the selectors are still obsessed with Shafiul. They always keeps praising him for bowling well in the nets but thats useless.

It's Shoriful, U19 pacer, not Shafiul.

I am firmly of the opinion that once a player plays for the national team, he should than never be included in age teams.

I remember Tamim Iqbal was playing for the national team and U19's at the same time. Such a demotion is mentally detrimental for the player.

The vision should always be for "long term" instead of short term goals. The players who represented the national team before should be replaced with inexperienced players.. I like India's approach in that regard. They follow the same logic both in Cricket and Football.

I'm really excited to see how Shoriful grows. Equally disinterested about Shafiul.

I get that it’s a smaller tour being u23s but it feels strange that BCB are ok with these players going to Pakistan when some of them have been in national squads and they aren’t ok with them going if it’s the national squad. For example shanto or shafiul, if this was the national squad BCB would’ve said no but because it’s u23s it’s fine for these players to go. Like I said I get that it’s a smaller tour so possibly less dangers to the players, but it certainly feels strange.

I think to have a blanket rule like this wouldn’t serve the players or the national team any sort of positives. The other thing is Bangladesh isn’t India, India’s domestic structure is of a much higher quality and therefore much more capable of developing players to a standard of which is closer to national team level cricket.

For Bangladesh there needs to be multiple levels between domestic cricket and the national team so players can develop properly, otherwise things will continue as they have been and players will have to try and develop in a significant way whilst in the national team.

Now, as I tend to say, players should develop and evolve in the national team, that’s what a player needs to do to remain successful at the international level, but they also ideally need to reach a certain standard and level of development before entering the national team, currently that isn’t really able to happen because there is nowhere for the players to develop their skills to the level required to be ready to begin an international career.

Take a guy like Liton or anamul haque. Killing it in domestics but each with different issues and not ready for the international level before getting to the team, guess what, neither of them after years of being in the international team have grown to consistent international class players. It’s not because of lack of talent, it’s the system.
