Default The horror of choosing career path!!!

Whether you are a financial analyst or a computer programmer recently facing the economic downtown and the tactics of financial firms of so called "outsourcing"...did you ever think about going back to medschool????
Is these think a joke or what...we ppl frm subcontinent due to poverty and greediness only go for something that has money in it. I agree money is necessary but to run for it without any aim..how much it helps building our generation.

SS;

For the first generation of immigrants the money factor always remains important. In my personal opinion, career choice in either of the field or many more as such translate to "chakori". In bangla the word stems from "chakor" = slave; "ee" = execution of the noun (i.e. slave). Hence "chakor" + "ee" = "chakori".

Bottomline, corporate America is a slave driver institution. The trick is to realize the truth. Agent Smith should know better, "it's the matrix".

Well money indeed is important, especially to people from the third world country. To run for it without aim - well that happens when you don't have too many choices. Personally, I prefer a profession that has a balance among the following factors:

1) Doing something that interests me.
2) Something through which I'll be able to contribute to the society.
3) A sound income.

Interesting topic indeed!
thnx SS for bringing it up..

where is the border line between choices vs needs anyway?
line between 'needs' & 'wants'...?

high-skilled-but-not-so-well-paid professionals vs average-skilled-but-considerably-well-paid.... dilemma!:duh:

the thing is that in third world countries people don't have too many options other than going for money. ei j amra bangalira khali kothay kothay khai khai kori...keno? aree bhai amar bashay ashchen na kheye gele ki kore hobe? keno? we do this because, no matter how rich we are, amra obhaber desher manush...amader kache khawatai shobar upore...bangladesher avg manusher jekhane khawa mile na, shekhane eta moteo oshhabhabik na...

this is exactly why people in the United states can go for professions like geology, dinosaur bone hunting, etc etc whereas amader chelepule ra pore medicine, engineering, architecture - jekhane poysha beshi...
