He is well known for historical documentary film on 1971's War "Muktir Gaan" and film "Matir Moyna"

Tareq Masud, the award-winning filmmaker, and Mishuk Munier, the chief executive officer (CEO) of ATN News, were among five killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj on Saturday.
Tareq Masud's wife Catherine Masud and another person sustained injuries in the accident.
The accident took place around 12:20pm when a Chuadanga-bound bus collided with a microbus carrying them in Ghior upazila, said Rois Uddin, officer-in-charge of Ghior Police Station.
All of them died on the spot, the OC added.
Another deceased is the driver of the microbus while the identities of remaining two were not known immediately.
UNB adds: President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed their deep shock at the death of Tareq Masud and Mishuk Munier.
In a condolence message, the president prayed for the salvation of the departed souls and also conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family members.
The premier, in a separate message, prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed sympathy to the victim’s families.
Tareq Masud is an award-winning independent film director. He is known for directing the films Muktir Gaan (1995) and Matir Moina (2002).
Along with his wife, Catherine Masud, who is his co-director and a film editor, Masud runs a film production house based in Dhaka named Audiovision.
His first full-length feature film, Matir Moina (English release title "The Clay Bird") which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival, derives inspiration from his own childhood experiences.
He won the International Critic's Award at the Cannes film Festival in 2002 for this film, as well as the FIPRESCI Prize for Directors' Fortnight for "its authentic, moving and delicate portrayal of a country struggling for its democratic rights.
His latest film, Ontorjatra, is a tale of two generations of Bangladeshi diaspora in London. The film describes the short visit home of a divorced mother and her son.

আপনাকে যদি বলি- ভাই, আত্নহত্যা করবেন? তাহলে কী উত্তর দিবেন? হয়ত কোন উত্তরই দিবেন না। মনে মনে বলবেন, লোকটার মাথা পুরোটাই গেছে!

হ্যাঁ, আমার কথায় এমনটাই বলবেন আপনি। কিন্তু যদি বলি প্রতিদিন আমরা-আপনারা আত্নহত্যা করার জন্যই রাস্তায় বেরোচ্ছি। তাহলে কি খুব অযৌক্তিক হবে?

এ লেখাটি লেখার আগে মনে মনে ঠিক করেছি সংবাদ লেখার মত এখানে কোন বিষয়ে কোন ‘কর্তৃপক্ষের’ কোন ‘কর্তাব্যক্তি’র মতামত জানতে চাইব না। একান্ত নিজের মতটিই ব্যক্ত করব।

বলছিলাম আতœহত্যার কথা। আপনি কি নিশ্চিত-প্রয়োজনের তাগিদে সকালে যেভাবে সুস্থভাবে বাসা থেকে বেরিয়েছেন, ঠিক সেভাবেই ঘরে ফিরতে পারবেন? আমার উত্তর-না।

অন্তত সাম্প্রতিক কয়েকটি ঘটনা আমার উত্তরের পক্ষে যথেষ্ঠ মনে করছি।

আর কত! আর কতটি মানুষের জীবন গেলে আমাদের ‘কার্তারা’ নিরাপদে ঘরে ফেরার নিশ্চয়তা দিতে পারবেন?

কমতো হলোনা। স্বয়ং সরকারের আমলা থেকে শুরু করে স্কুল শিশু পর্যন্ত গেলো। এবার কি একটু নড়ে-চড়ে বসবে না সরকার বাহাদুর!

সড়ক সন্ত্রাসের কারণে দেশ একএক করে তার রত্নদের হারাচ্ছে। তাতে দেশ নিয়ে যারা চিন্তা করেন বলে দাবী করেন, সেই সরকারের কি কিছুই করার নেই?

গেল বছরে সড়ক দূর্ঘটনায় প্রাণ গেল দুই আমলার। এ বছর রাজধানীর পিচঢালা পথে জীবন দিয়েছেন তরুন এক সাংবাদিক। তার রক্ত শুকোতে না শুকোতেই মিরসরাইয়ে প্রায় ৪০ জন স্কুল ছাত্রের নির্মম মৃত্যু হলো। তাদের কবরের মাটি এখনও শুকোয়নি। তার আগেই শনিবার সড়ক সন্ত্রাসের শিকার হয়ে প্রাণ গেল দুটি মানুষের।

এ দুজন দেশের ‘সম্পত্তি নয় সম্পদ’।

এছাড়া এ বছরই দেশের দুটি স্থানে একদিনে আটাশজন ও তেরজনসহ প্রতিদিন রাস্তায় প্রাণ দেওয়া নাম না জানাদের কথা নাইবা বললাম।

দুপুরে নির্মাতা তারেক মাসুদ আর ইলেক্ট্রনিক মিডিয়ার অগ্রগন্য ব্যক্তি মিশুক মুনিরের মৃত্যুর খবর পেয়ে প্রথমে একটু থমকে ছিলাম। কয়েক মূহূর্ত পর ভাবলাম সব সম্ভবের এই দেশে এ আর নতুন কি!

ইতিহাস বলে আলোচিত প্রতিটি সড়ক দূর্ঘটনার পরই সরকার খুব ঘটা করে একটি কাজ ঠিকই করে থাকে। তা হচ্ছে উচ্চ পর্যায়ের! ‘তদন্ত কমিটি’। যেগুলোর দ্বারা এখনও কাজের কাজ কিছুই হয়নি বলে অন্তত আমার মনে হয়।

আর যদি তদন্ত কমিটির কল্যাণে কোন ফলই হতো, তাহলে বোধ হয় তারেক মাসুদদের এভাবে চলে যেতে হতোনা।

এ দূর্ঘটনার পরও হয়ত সেই কাঙ্খিত তদন্ত কমিটি করবে সরকার। কিন্তু তার ফলাফল কী হবে তা কি বলতে পারবে ভবিষ্যত?

আমরা আসলে মহাশয়ের জাতি। একদিকে এ দেশে একটি কলেজ ছাত্রকে সন্ত্রাসী প্রমাণ করতে সরকারের উচ্চ পর্যায়ের কতই না চেষ্টা। অন্যদিকে একের পর এক সড়ক দূর্ঘটনায় বেঘোরে প্রাণ হারাচ্ছে জনতা। সেদিকে সরকারের খেয়াল করার যেন প্রয়োজনই নেই।
