Underestimating how much this zim series could help the youngsters, if they are given serious game time and as someone has said seniors aren’t around then they will have no choice but to take responsibility or risk their spot and the teams opportunity to win this series.

That sort of experience will help in the WC.

The likes of soumya, liton, mosaddek etc should be able to make this series competitive, if they can’t then we’ve been picking the wrong youngsters and they won’t help much in the WC anyway.

In the meantime it gives vital time for some of the seniors to properly rehab their injuries.

If the injured players play then you risk further or worse or a relapse of injuries and the closer to the WC, the worse that is.

Look at other top teams, they rest their injured and overworked players/senior players in matches against zim to give experience to the bench. Heck India did it in the Asia cup by omitting kohli and resting rohit the captain in some matches.

If winning this series is the priority then play the seniors, if the WC is priority then rest at least some of them.

If mash doesn’t play I hope they give serious thought to who gets the captaincy because it’d be a great opportunity for mashes heir to get some captaincy experience.

Another very logical post from Gowza. Easily my favorite cricket brain.

Winning the series should be no one's priority. There's no CT so there's no value to rankings (except pride, but pride doesn't win you championships).

Better to develop the young guys. I would like to see Liton get the captaincy. He seems to be the most level headed of the young core, and would be a good way to test his merit. But this would only work if all the seniors rest, which is exactly what we should do.

from the young guys, miraz is the choice for future captaincy. during the pak game, mash/mushy/riyad were all in the dressing room at the same time for a over or two and miraz captained the side.

let liton focus on the batting. plus he will take up keeping in the near future as well. so captaincy on top of that might just be too much.

Assuming riyad is playing a few more years he can captain, not sure young guys will be ready if mash is retiring next year.

I would only rest mash or any other player who has a niggle, fizz could play a game or two, but only if he's 100%.

Obviously tamim and shakib are already out. I would play liton as keeper for the whole series.

Resting Fizz is not an option. He is not injured at the moment as far as I know...plus he is very very young in years, any amount of international experience will help his cause. If he is injured then obviously then he has to rest...

After Riyad, Mehedi Miraz is the best choice for Captain I believe. I loved how in that opening partnership against India, He spoke to Litton and gave him confidence...the rest is history. also after Litton dropped catches against Pakistan, Miraz spoke to him and then he completed a crucial stumping and that was a game changer...

Are you sure? i thought it looked the way around. liton seemed to be advising miraz inbetween overs.

Either way I would like to see both as options for future captaincy. Miraz also has the experience of being captain.

Miraz has a good cricketing brain but still far cry from captaincy.
I would like someone with bit of maturity and aged between 28-31 to take the reign.

I want Riad. Most dynamic captain after Mash. Wish he was a little better test player

Miraz was also the captain at U19 level, if he stays in the side then one day he will be the captain for sure and he might be a great captain. Now it will be one of seniors, Riyad should be given captaincy in ODIs and T20s, after Mashrafe retires

So far it looks like Mash, Mushy, and Riyad will play. Only Shakib and Tamim out.
