Norton or Kaspersky or Others ?
What is the best anti virus at the moment ??
Is is Norton or Kaspersky or other notable ones like AVG ??
I know we have talked about anti virus issues before, but technology and softwares are always updated every few months.
So, question to the more learned BC members, which one should I go for my laptop + office pc ??

The answer is always Avast and none of the above.
Free updates for home use, yes genuine licensed free. Using for over 10 years now! Never had any problem.

Avast.
Btw, I have Norton and Avast both installed. Norton is installed automatically after system recovery. But I know you are not supposed to have two: how to remove Norton then? From Add or Remove Programs?

I used all of the above - its all good. YMMV. Now I am just using MS security essentials. Never had a virus except for the original Jerusalem virus on one of our lab computers in 1988.

Using MSE for the last 4-5 years, never had a problem with viruses. It is a small program and doesn't make your laptop slow.

How about 'AVG' ? I have been using this for last couple of years. Its a free version. Never had problem with it, so never looked for other software. Is it good or should i go for better one ?

They are all analogous. Chose what makes you feel better. Like your religion.

I have been using MSE for last couple of years. Seems to work very well. I also have malwarebyte anti-malware free and super anti-spyware free.

^^ You need "genuine Windows" for MSE to work, and mine's isn't
First thing, have to make my windows genuine.

I use none of them and I don't have to as I use Ubuntu in my personal laptop!

What about your official one?
I have dual boot - Ubuntu and Windows 7.

Currently happily using MS security essentials with no complain in Windows 7. Dont use Kaspersky, used to be good but shyty now. Not recommended for heavy pen drive/usb HDD users.
For XP I found Avast handy. Used it for about two years, really liked it for its fast checking. They are pretty quick in updating new virus definations.
Agnitum Outpost Pro what I used for 1 year with my highest reliability with some poweful features packeged there, had to left it for cost reson but was really good for power users.
Before that I used free versions for Norton, Avg, BitDeffender makes your PC performance noticibly slow.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
Seems like Avast is the winner in this sample size.

You are deciding based on a set of random comments on an internet forum and that too not dedicated to tech?

^^ I haven't decided anything yet
It was a mere fact finding statement.

I tried Avast and it found some virus and got rid of it nicely. But after that, the laptop has become very slow as its always running Avast in the background. It's a bulky software and I think it has slowed down the performance.

Kaspersky itself is spreading like a virus in BD!! I have strong doubts about its strength and ratings.
Fact is.. Kaspersky has deployed massive marketing plots in BD.. you'd see posters/banners/advertises and even promotional agents of kasp everywhere in BD. And since most of the Company owners & office bosses are 'extremely tech-savvy' in BD, Kasp has managed to create sort of a monopoly as 'licensed Anti virus' in BD market. Many BD offices have been wasting licensing and renewing money over it for the last few years!

I have been an ESET user for years now. I was using just the antivirus before, but now I've moved onto the whole Smart Security suite. Never had a system infected/compromised so far. It has never interfered with my day to day activity unless it's absolutely necessary (although, I do prefer to run it in advanced mode on some systems, where it's a bit more noisy).
http://www.eset.com/us/home/whyeset/compare/
I have multi-year + multi-pc licensing to cover my family and a few friends.
Of course, if you are unwilling to pay for proper protection (and not into stealing), you can go with any of the free solutions out there really... kaspersky, avast, avg... whatever else. They all seem the same to me.
