Default Cricinfo:Fans clash with police over World Cup tickets

Cricket fans clashed with police in Dhaka in the rush to buy tickets for the 2011 World Cup to be held in the sub-continent next month. The tickets went on sale on Sunday at 80 branches of the private City Bank and the state-owned Agrani Bank after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made 15,000 per-match available for the public. The fans, reportedly, were angered after being told that only 500 tickets would be sold per branch as a result of the strict scrutiny over buyers' identification papers. A few fans and a photographer are known to have suffered minor injuries in the protests.

"They raised slogans and held demonstrations. We dispersed the protesters and maintained calm," police inspector Shah Alam told AFP. Bangladesh will be hosting eight matches during the competition.

500 is enough per branch as there are 84 branches. People from other districts deserve to buy some too.

i just checked the site, and its not letting me buy single matches for the bangladesh games. its telling me to buy it from retail outlets. you can still buy tickets for the matches in other countries

but i did check a month back and even back then most of seats for the first few games in dhaka were sold, and only the vip seats which were like 150 usd were available.

if i cant get the main game i will try and get tickets for the practice match against pakistan.

otherwise ill just have to watch it on tv. aslong as bangladesh perform well ill be happy.

in bangladesh, everything is difficult. i am sure this police tried to show their power, BAL cadder showed their power too and innocent victims were some die hard cricket fan

Most of the stadiums in WI were half empty (Sometimes more than half). That's why you could buy tickets on the match days. It's totally opposite in Bangladesh and India.

in last World Cup the orgnaiser ICC/WICB got it completely wrong. They overpriced the tickets too much.

And this World Cup they with BCB's help got it wrong again. But its not the price its the number available to local fans.

I cannot buy from online. It's telling me to go to retail outlet.

I tried to buy expensive Dhaka package too. It's taking all the information and just before payment information it's saying tickets are sold out for this category. What a joke!!! ICC seems to have the same blood as BCB.

Right...I say, lets break the govt's office for having only 35k seats for a population of 150 million. These incompetent politicians should really get their math right at least. I mean...we could give or take 1 or 2 thousand. But where will these 134965000 people seat now?

They should have had stadium capacity to 100,000+
Still it would have been sold out.
Atleast that way, most fans would have got the chance to be at the ground for once.

100000k+ stadium eu hoito na ............ this is WC ...................

there are 80 booths and there is at least ~5000 ppl at every booth. that means 400000 ppl are waiting for tickets. now most of these ppl wants to buy 2 tickets becuase they will go with frinds and family. so the ppl who are standing are demanding 80000 tickets. now count us who are not standing for tickets. so if u add that perhaps there is a demand o 2,000,000 million+ tickets .......

Some ppl are even hiring women to buy their tickets as there were separate lines for female in many places and they were shorter .ntv news reporter asked two women which matches they are interested to watch .one of them said brazil's match and another one said argentina's !!
