Default Former Bangladesh skipper Mahmud joins venue protest

DHAKA (Reuters) - Former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud was among protesters who staged a token seven-hour hunger strike on Tuesday against a government decision to change the venue for test and one-day internationals.

Over 50 people, including former officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, club organisers and players, squatted at an entrance of Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka to take part in the hunger strike.

The Bangabandhu National Stadium has been the venue for 17 tests and 58 one-day internationals since 1955 but Bangladesh will now play at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium at Mirpur, 10km away.

Last week, several hundred fans staged a noisy protest in the capital against the decision.

Ohhh, there goes Mahmud's chance & hope of ever becoming a captain again.

If politics is allowed to say something here, then Sujon might not be selected for the Bangladesh team (even in ODIs) after this. However, that is only the extreme case.

Well done to Mahmud but it was silly as he is still a player.

Taking Cricket away from BNS....is it a BCB Decision? --- NO.
Any code of conduct restrict Mahmud to protest against Govt. decision?--NO

I think he did a favor for himself.
It might be harmful for his career.
but He stood for what he believed in.
That's is the thing-- courage --we lack most in today's Bangladesh.

I'm impressed.

Mahmud didnot protest against the government's decision to take cricket away from BNS, he simply went to the stadium to practice. I was wondering how come one of Arafat's chamchas was protesting against a gov't move.

You got to admire anyone who has the guts to stand up.

Having said that I am all for more modern facilities. How many people have died trying to find an exit during figths? How many of you have soaked in urine rain? How many of you had a chance to use the restrooms in that stadium?
