Lightbulb Asia Cup 2018 has moved from India to UAE

The UAE is going to host the 2018 Asia Cup that was originally slated to be held in India. The tournament is likely to be played between Sep 13 and 28.

Political tensions between IND and PAK (say something new) has been cited as the reason for the change. "The ACC deliberated on the matter and decided that this was the best way forward," ACC and PCB chairman Najam Sethi said.

In addition, the 2018 Emerging Teams' Asia Cup will be co-hosted by PAK and SL. Originally scheduled for Apr, the tournament has now been moved to Dec.

2018 Asia Cup will feature Full Members IND, PAK, SL, BAN and AFG. The 6th team will be determined via a playoff that includes UAE, Hong Kong, Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia and Oman.

Here's the past record:

Yes. Back in the days when we used to get an ODI or two every 3-4 years. Here is a video I had uploaded from the 1995 Asia Cup in Sharjah.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT6DS-EcoIE

This was my first ever experience of watching our National Team live on Prime Sports (Premium Asian Sports Channel at the time!) We were thrashed but I loved every minute of watching our players at the big stage. Athar drove that first ball for four. Wasn't very common back in those days.

I think BAN played in 95 Asia Cup at Sharjah. Lost all 3 matches against the 3.

I hope Nepal qualifies as the 6th team. Would do them wonder for their team. They have a crazy cricket nation unlike Oman and uae.

What are the chances of Afghanistan winning this Asia Cup?

PAK won't allow it on their "homeground".

I am really liking Nejam Sethi. He's a winner. Dalmiya level caliber. Wish he was in charge of BCB.

I think India is still 'host' so they are getting all the revenue if I'm not correct

They can care less about hosting Asia Cup

Good. Want to see both India and Pakistan play in the Asia cup. They along with SL and BAN and ofcourse upcomming teams like AFG and Nepal will make is vert interesting.

I wonder why this has been shifted to UAE. India does not want Pakistanis to enter their country? Hmm!

This might have worked in Pak's favour them, playing the tournament in their second home ground.

Good luck BD - entering into unknown territory. BCB should send the team a month early to get used to with the condition.

Okay. I am pretty sure the Sahara Desert is in Africa; UAE is still in Asia. That's where Firebreaker is from(?)

Tamim, Shakib and Riyad have some experience playing in the UAE due to PSL. The conditions are not too different from the subcontinent. Dubai and Abu Dhabi will be high scoring whereas Shrjah not so much.

BCB should arrange a couple of practice matches with the UAE team - if they dont qualify but unfortunately they will most likely. They are the best Asian team outside the top 5. Nepal are rubbish.

A spot in the finals should be our target. Any loss against Afghans, Sri Lanka or UAE/Nepal would be criminal.

Missed opportunity- why not get Nepal to host it? They have a much stronger cricket culture, and more spectators would turn up for games instead of playing in nearly empty stadium at Sharjah even if Nepal didn't qualify.

Might be safer for India to play in the UAE than in Chennai at the moment
