Default Strauss, Swann doubtful for WI game

Strauss, Swann doubtful for WI game

Afp, Chennai

England captain Andrew Strauss and off-spinner Graeme Swann are doubtful for the key World Cup clash against the West Indies after missing training on Tuesday with stomach problems.

Meanwhile struggling fast bowler James Anderson was seen receiving treatment for a problem with his right shoulder during training but a team spokesman said he remained available for selection.

"They're two key players and would be in anybody's team," England batsman Jonathan Trott said of Strauss and Swann.

"I'm pretty confident they will be all right. These things are normally 24 or 48 hours. I'll give you a better idea Wednesday if they train.

"It's one of those things. You go from sweating on the field into cold air conditioning and stuff like that. I'm not 100 per cent today but I should be tomorrow."

England must beat the West Indies at Chennai's Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday to have a chance of qualifying for the quarterfinals -- and even then they will need other results to go their way.

Defeat would see England, already beaten by Ireland and Bangladesh, crash out of the World Cup before the knockout phase.

I doubt they'll be left out if it's just stomach flue.

I'm pretty sure they will play. I definitely want Anderson to play. WI needs a pacer from whom to plunder some runs.

I will take them playing without being 100% fit against WI. You never know about WI.. they can use a bit extra help. We are depending on them after all. :p

England is the most boring team in the world. the only one with a bit of x-factor is KP and he is gone with hernia. Is there anyone in the world who actually supports England cricket team except a few boring english commentators like botham??

Yes...Im sure. That's why every game they played so far in this world cup has been the most exciting matches to watch.

I don't support them based on principle, not because they are a boring team (this is disputable).

I strongly believe that WI will beat them. England is low on confidence and is in shock after being beaten by 2 lesser teams, after they thrashed the mighty Aussies in the Ashes.

I feel sorry for Strauss and Swann.

Can we sent a "get well" card and a plate of Fuska please.
