man alive - this thread is still alive? To quote the fabster, Narcissus truly doth liveth amongst us.
To break out of this holding pattern of "tui josh, na dost tui josh" (my translation of "u da man" "no u da man"), I suggest starting a controversial thread. What shall it be?
1) Religion is kewl .. or not? - Done to death
2) India is a meanie .. or not? - Definite caning of the deceased equine
3) Vi vs Emacs? - hmm .. guess half the folks won't get into it
4) Rana is kewl ... or not? - No fresh evidence tho it would probably drag Sham out of academic purgatory
I've got it. Should bald men like Dr. Z use rogaine and hair translpants? What's good about it? What's bad about it? What are the options? ... Ok off to make the new thread ...

Tsk. Tsk. Taking my name in vain again? My favorite poster is myself As I used to say in my younger non-balding days: I am not great enough to be humble.

Bald men should stay bald as most bald people claim that its directly linked to being rich and excess of male hormone. Let them be over confident.
Now if Dr. Z thinks that he needs to do something about that, then I think he should have hair transplants instead of rogaine (which have undesirable side effect).
Hey ... I only opened my mouth about this sensitive issue only after RazabQ solicit for opinion... so its not my fault.

You mean Nedit? I think Nedit is better than Vi and gedit.

Gimme VIM I tells ya. I even have it on my NT box. Loading all those lisps libraries on Emacs takes for ever and then everything is control this or meta that. Well forget that!
Now will some here start piping about Pico?
Also has anyone played with OneNote? It's pretty nifty - not an editor per se but in the same region.

Yep. Nedit is the best editor that I have used, and also the most under-used by most. Lots of functionality. And doesn't cr@p out unless the file is several GBytes.

Vim all the way man.. the last time I used emacs was in undergrad and it just seemed way too cumbersome. The only thing Pico is good for is to justify text..
Never heard of Nedit - what's so good about it?

It's menu driven!! argh.. have to use a mouse.. think i'll stick with vim

If you are going to go with one liner cli edits then nothing beats the pretty eclectic rubbish lister with a slice of pie. Beats the crap out of sed and awk in syntactic simplicity.
BTW - fab - vim - et tu? I knew there had to be a reason you were fabulous

And hence my comment ... "under-used". Nedit is very nifty with keyboard interface as well. CTRL+ will do something or the other for you.
Sed / Awk .... from someone who probably doesn't have a whole lot of use for text file processing. Those shouldn't even make the list.

Of course I am referring to the list of editors. Not THE list that's being paraded and ticker-taped in this thread
Btw, I think the moderators should not post in a thread at all, unless performing a moderating action.
If anyone wants to post general contents and be a moderator at the same time, better find another alias for the general posts.
Amra deshi manush ra ektu beshi tel bazi kori ... ar moderator ra perfect candidates for Toilo Mordon. Don't take it otherwise ... but I am a little (only a little) sick of seeing the love-fest amongst the "good old boys club".
But going against my own statement, I would applaud the most professional staff of BC - Chinaman. Not that he is the only professional one, but he is ahead by miles.
Oh well ...

Yeah, that's why I had the preface (you cut that out to make your point) - "going against my own words" .
After all, I don't want to get a warning for condemning the love-fest. That was my escape hatch. And now you closed it!

hmm good place to stir up the ego!
Anyway, as one poster mentioned, lists are predominant with persons endeared by posts rather than favorite posters. I will define a favorite 'poster' as one, other than anything else, whose posts I rush to read as soon as I see the nick.
As for my list, I will skip the obvious ones, as they already may be at the brink of popping. From top of my head the rest of the list will be something like this (most of them are banished or vanished): nishi (well, used to be too many posts to really 'rush' at), mba (too few to have a mouthful), horseman (a dark comet after the WI series), cricketfan, reinausagi (why she is in none of the lists?), mb444, sameercreep, cricket46, mohd azam...

These are the following ppl that I usually rush to read the posts of: (I might be missing some, after going through 10-15 pages of the list picking out members.. I got tired and started choosing from memory (<-- ha! that's not good) but.. here it is so far:
( I usually ONLY follow these ppl and read other memebers post if it is replying mine )... 3 years ago, I used to read every single post on this site. That was very exciting.... I used to enjoy every new post regardless of the poster

I am serious.

mwrkhan - another very good poster worth reading.
also a kid name saad - who looks like Humayan ahmed.. atleast tht was his avatar
