Advice on Tablet PC

I've been thinking of buying a tablet PC/Ipad for myself for a while now. But can't decide which one will be the best one for me.

Reason : Primarily for making presentation during business meetings. Basically, instead of carrying a laptop, I'd rather carry a tab, obviously more convenient. I would also like to use it for other regular purpose like browsing the net, checking mails etc.

I understand IPAD doesn't allow MS Office Suites like Word and Powerpoint and has got other limitations. But having an ipod and iphone, I'm undoubtedly biased and inclined towards IPad, though not sure how fitting it would serve my purpose.

I know some of our members are using tabs for business,personal reasons. Many of you are also better tech-savvy than me.

So can you guys plz advice me which one should I go for ??

For my iPad I am personally looking for a water-resistant screen for shower....not sure where you can get that....

On a less serious note, I don't think iPad is any good for business or formal presentations. Seriously. It's more of an entertainment gadget. You cannot possibly scribe during meetings with tuk-tuk finger typing. It may help if you get a stylus but stil...

IPAD without 3G or 4S internet (for Americans) is useless. Not sure how strong will be the connection in BD.

Galaxy Tab or Motorolla Xoom?

Rabz - were you planning to use the tablet to present or were you wishing to plug it into a projector or big-screen? You can do both on the iPad and plus with iCloud you can keep all your devices in sync. You'll need this to mirror your ipad onto a bigger screen.

But - if the meeting place has net access, throw away MS PowerPoint and go with a modern cloud based presentation software like the Prezi. After my wife showed me what she can do with Prezi - I'm sold. here are some great examples: http://prezi.com/explore/

I am an old school techie but I prefer the iPad over ALL other tablets. However - I haven't yet to play with the new Samsung (the one getting sued all over the place by Apple) which looks to be an able competitor.

BTW - PowerPoint is evil. This by Edward Tufte - the world's foremost expert on information design and data visualization. He is a professor emeritus at Stanford and his books Envisioning Information is a classic.

Zunaid bhai, thanks for your input.

The presentation does not necessarily have to be plugged in a big screen, tab presentation will be fine.
I can always get GP/Qubee modem connection for net use if outside or use the wifi at my office.
So that's not a problem.

I'm a very average computer user.
So all those iCloud/Prezi programs you mention, will they be very easy for me to adopt ??

Minimum: Save your ppt as PDF and display on tablet. Any tablet, even if it does not support MS word $stuff.

Minimum: If iPad, do your presentation in KeyNote. They are all equivalent tools.

Minimum + net acess: You can upload your presentations to the cloud such as a service like slideshare. There are many similar sights.

More than minimum: If you want wow non linear presentations that mirror how humans present, learn prezi - not difficult. You are not constrained to decks and bullets like in traditional presentation software. Ideally - the decks are to support what YOU are saying not for you to read out, line by line, bullet by bullet, to your audience.

I use a galaxy S and I would definitely go for the tablet version of Samsung because there are lots of restrictions from apple which I don't like at all. Well, if you want free apps and personalization go with Samsung and it's cheaper too. To me, iPad2 is a high quality product for the rich people like Zunaid Boss with the heavy brand value while galaxy tab is almost the same quality product with lots more options to explore ideally for the youth. Now, you decide in which category you fit most.


Go with Galaxy Tab 10.1, it's simply awesome.

What about the asus tablet which attaches itself to a keyboard. A bit pricey though. Heard that amazon might get into the tablet domain soon.

If you can afford it, go with the ipad, all those people content with android, don't know what they are missing.

I use both, and I can confirm, android is still lagging years behind ios.

However, if budget is an issue, Fire rocks.

Side note: the windows 8 pad looks tempting, I will buy it.

People should remember that tablets are not yet a computing device, they are almost a read-only net-enabled device with a small footprint.

The iPad meets my needs in both form and function. No other tablet has yet to offer the same blend of performance and aesthetics. The new Samsung device shows promise though and I'm also liking the Metro user-interface from Microsoft - that can be a potential game changer just as Apples touch UI changed the entire smart-phone and tablet ecosystem.

The Kindle fire is good but it seems to me an enhanced e-Reader with a browser and some apps. We have the previous Kindle at home, but I personally prefer the reading on the iPad (it is better for my aging eyes) and the interactive content is the next evolution for books. For those who can, I recommend going to the iPad version of Wired and National Geographic magazines (phenomenal!).

Thanks a lot for this timely thread Rabz bhai. I was also planning to buy a tab for business and personal use. Right now I'm using a iPad to type this reply. Now a days I'm using iPad is very smart in some way found some issues also. I'm a very basic computer user. I haven't used galaxy tab yet.
