technical problem, please help!!!

my computers media players do not play videos at all. at least all the microsoft ones (the apple quicktime works).

windows media player, winamp, et al do not work. they play songs and stuff but not videos of any type.

i think i have a problem with the codec, but i dont know which one i need. can anyone tell me where to find it and which codec.
