Global warming warning

I noticed a period in late February here in Southern Queensland Australia where we had 9 out of 10 days above 39 degrees celcius.
It was unusual to have the temperture so high for so many consecutive days. Some North Western towns like Burke had 5 consecutive days above 44 degrees , some places hit 47.
I would imagine global warming would be a disaster for a country like Bangladesh that has a lot of low lying country and has rivers that source from the snow covered peaks of the Himalayas.
Previously I did'nt give much creedance to doomsday global warming theorists.
But now I do , and I also think its coming sooner rather than later

Don't think the major source of concern for Bangladesh vis-a-vis Global Warming has to do with the melting of snow from the Himalayas. The melting of polar ice caps and semi-permanent glaciers which has the potential to actually raise the level of the world's seas a few feet is. We are talking geological time frames heres. Won't happen next year, no matter how many SUVs we drive tomorrow morning.

Not quite geologic scale.

One scenario predicts that at current rate of global warming, in 150 years 22% of Bangladesh may be inundated by rising sea waters.

16% = 22K sq km affecting 17% of the population.

That might be 30-40 _million_ people directly affected. Consider the impact.

Last summer Europe experienced its hottest for over 500 years. Although that is not exactly what is supposed to happen there (apparently melting ice from the north pole will result in Europe freezing over)..

As for it certainly not happening next year (you gas guzzling, SUV driving, texas cowboy :P), "experts" say that all depends on how the fragile "Great Conveyor Belt" handles the melting polar caps. Alternet had a great article about it HERE
