Anthrax panic in BD

I think this issue deserves a thread.in Bangladesh we are at the moment confused with anthrax on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr.Govt has issued country wide red alert over spread of anthrax.But yet no notable improvement in meat market.Butchers still slaying cows without checking.Also public getting tensed thinking about buying Beef and upcoming Eid ul Adha!

Don't know much. Anthrax the word first came to our knowledge after 1/11 :p Rumor has it, envelop filled with Anthrax powder was also sent to USA ambassador in Dhaka during 2001.

btw,current general concept among public is Anthrax entered into BD through trading Indian cattle !

বিজ্ঞানীরা আগেই বলেছিলেন, শকুন কমে যাওয়ায় বাংলাদেশ ও ভারতে গবাদিপশুর অ্যানথ্রাক্স, যক্ষা ও খুরা রোগ মহামারি আকারে ছড়িয়ে পড়বে। পশুর মৃতদেহ শকুন খাচ্ছে না বলে এসব রোগ-বালাই ছড়িয়ে পড়ছে। গরুকে ব্যথানাশক ডাইক্লোফেনাক খাওয়ানোর কারণে বাংলাদেশের ৯৮ শতাংশ শকুন মারা গেছে। ডাইক্লোফেনাক ওষুধ খাওয়া কোনো মৃত গরুর মাংস খেলে শকুন কিডনি বিকল হয়ে ভুগে অল্প সময়ের মধ্যে মারা যায়। এ ধরনের ওষুধের পার্শ্বপ্রতিক্রি� �ায় মাত্র গত এক যুগে শকুন বাংলাদেশ থেকে বিলুপ্ত হওয়ার মুখে এসে দাঁড়িয়েছে। ভারত, পাকিস্তান ও নেপালে ডাইক্লোফেনাক ওষুধ নিষিদ্ধ করা হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশেও তা নিষিদ্ধ করার জন্য সরকারের উচ্চপর্যায়ে আবেদন করা হবে। বিশেষজ্ঞরা ডাইক্লোফেনাকের বিকল্প হিসেবে এখন মেলোক্সিক্যাম ব্যবহারের নির্দেশ দিচ্ছেন, যা পাখিটির জন্য ক্ষতিকর নয়।

^^^ very interesting. These issues need to be discussed and published more for awareness. Imagine that, which poor farmer in Sirajgonj wouldve thought that "shob shokun moira gese bole ajke amar anthrax hoise".

Not that the people have become vegeterians all of a sudden. They are now eating up all the chickens & ducks in the market until the next spreading of bird flu starts.

no travel warning i guess....and there has been no more major news of anthrax on media. may be next round of panic coming on Eid ul Adha!

Starting to forget how beef taste like !!
..and gorur mangsho and daal is my favourite food.

i know of a place where you actually get anthrax free beef.i haven't stopped eating beef,i have been having beef from there all this time
