Nafees wants Shahriar Nafees
Excerpt from New Age
Considering the time as a bad patch, Nafees now wants to recover his form sooner before the Sri Lanka tour. Meanwhile, the right-handed opener has a huge opportunity to shine with his bat when he will again tour England with Bangladesh A team.
'Definitely my one-day place is not secured after the disappointing series. It is natural to be excluded when I am failing to score runs and the other openers are in good forms,' said Nafees to New Age on Thursday.
'I think I have been going through a bad patch and I want to recover as soon as possible. I am working hard to improve and regain my form.
'I watched my videos and discovered that I had some technical faults.
‘I opened my bat too much without any reason and threw away my wickets when I was set,' added Nafees Iqbal.
Nafees said he considers himself lucky having a place in the A team to overcome his bad form. When asked about the newcomer and his A team captain Shahraer Nafees, Iqbal was very excited.
'He is a very talented player and can play some nice shots. We played together for a long time for the under-17 team and I have a very good understanding with him. It would be nice to bat with him.
'He is a good friend of mine and a relative. I would like to open with him in any team,' added Nafees.
The national selectors are also interested to set a regular left and right-hand opening combination. And the two batsmen will surely give the best possible option to the national selectors for the opening-slot solutions.

So they are relatives. Which means Nafees Iqbal is also a relative of Faruk - since Faruk and Shahriar are cousins.

Thant means Shahriar is Nafis's Chachi's Dulabhai's Cousin. That means we can start calling them Chacha-Bhatija combo.

But what about gullu?
For Test, he is still in the equation. Don't discount him so quickly. The two Nafis will fight with each other for one spot in Test. Actually it will be Chacha-Bhatijar Lorai.

I think that relationship is called Mama-Bhagina instead of Chacha-Bhatija. Shahriar is Mama and Iqbal is Bhagina.

oh god! was this topic opened to dig out the extensive family tree of the two Nafees ? Hello...we need a few cultural anthropologists to verify the hypothesis of these members! :P
On to the topic... having a righty-lefty combination brings a totally new dimension to any partnership. If its the case in opening, then its even more welcome. I cant think of any righty-lefty opening combination of BD that worked (ofcourse excluding Rafique's cameos here and there).

What were the righty-lefty opening combo we had other than Rafiq's presence?

We opened with rana twice. he failed once and other time had the longest opening partnership (or is the the 2nd longest?). eitherway, u can't tell any of the other 2 left-right combo was failure.
but none of them are pure left handed. if u look at the stat, abir is the 2nd pure left handed batsman to play for the national team. first was faisal.

The best opening partnership you mean ? Biddyut and Opee did it...against Zimbabwe, in Meril Tournament of 1998. I am too lazy to dig up the scorecard, but I think it was 178 runs, when Opee got out.

I meant to say that BD never had a righty-lefty opening partnership with two players who are natural openers. So if I misphrased it.

I am glad Nafis has taken note of his technical faults and willing to rectify it. Its never too late at his age. Someone should have fixed it earlier for him. The shuffling in is a bad habit that he has and he has to change it if he wants to be successful. He might get away with it against slow medium pacers or spinners. But a quality fast bowler or a seamer will trouble him always. Caught behinds and lbws will be his common mode of dismissals unless he changes his style.

even if not, i would still agree with your suggestion since mama-bhagina is a long lasting relationship than chacha-bhatija in our family culture.
we need a long partnership here....
