I am not doubting his ability but he must play for the BD team not for himself. All this Six hitting will give him maximum exposure but we need at least 4 quality batsman out of 6.

Aftab should play in ODIs, not in tests.

His Batting Position: Although he doesn't fit for no 3 slot, we have seen most of his boom booms when he batted at that position, in the following series.

Zimbabwe series (Away '06 & '07, Home '05 & '06 = 4 series)
Scotland (Home 2006)
ICCCT (India, 2006)
Kenya (Home 2006)
Tri Series (Against Bermuda, Before WC)

Since he played so many good knocks at no.3, management had no other choice but sending him at no.3. Hablu was too scared to play at no.3, and ASH's position at no.3 was unknown.

I still believe that Aftab is our best no.3 for ODIs.

No way man. He's probably the best batsman we have in the team after ashraful. He will give his wicket away, which is a problem. But rather than dropping him from the team, I say we move him down the order where he can have a go at the ball when the innings is about to close. We can move him up the order when chasing a huge total. Otherwise dropping him would mean lowering our chances of a big score significantly.
His bowling is useful too. The selectors should use this tour as his test tour. Keep him for both ODI and Test team and see how he does. They can move on from there.

If we can afford dropping Aftab from the team of any form - Test, ODI, Twenty20, 6-a-side and whatever - of cricket, we must be blessed with at least 6 Tendulakars.

I want Javed Omar to play the ODIs in the India One Day series.

Ok this is ridiculous. Everyone knows once you drop a player and bring a new one (in our case new ones mean totally inexperienced) you go back 6 months. First of all Aftab has done it so many times, you must be out of your senses not to realise the importance. Apart from the famous oz win, our first one day series win against Zimbabwe he was a show stealer. He is a true match winner and with these sort of batsmen a team can gain so much of confidence. If i am not mistaken he was the highest 6 hitter of the world last year and this year he is right up there as well.

One question is that whether he needs a rest or not, well no! If you see all the innings he played there was no short of confidence like other players who have been dropped showed, for example nafees, alok or even tushar. Infact it was totally the opposite, over confidence. He first needs to settle down with the batting slot right after Ashraful which is 6th. And then, he needs to start taking singles after he has settled, and then go for the big ones. He just needs to pace the innings.

And all the international exposure given, if he is dropped count another 6 months or even a year till we find his replacement and that means we are going backward not forward. Overall, another ridiculous question to be answered and another doubt in the mind started (THE SAME WITH SHAHRIER NAFEES when someone said if he is good enough). Totally absurd I must say!

Even though I post this thread I hope Aftab proves me wrong, I will get more satisfaction if he does.

i think it will be a disaster idea to drop him. It will be better to shift his position at no 6. He simply doesnt suit with no. 3 position. for current india series Hablu should come at no. 3. position. In Test im sorry to say that aftab simply doesnt fit.

Dumb thread.

Aftab has got the highest average among Bangladesh top order batsmen barring Sakib.

He is a match winner and that's proven.

No we cant drop Aftab or SN. Just bc they didnt have a good WC doesnt mean they should be axed right away. Plus, Aftab was crucial against SA. Also, his bak to bak 6 is what really started the innings for BD against SA.

Thats not true. In fact, its not even close to being true. Even if you take only the top order batsmen, Shahriars average of 35 is much higher than Aftabs avg of 26...

he stays in the ODI squad...he's too good...but he needs to get cut from the test side...that should get him into shape in no time (within a year)

test side looks settles like this for our top 7:

Nafees Iqbal
Shahriar Nafees
Habibul Bashar
Rajin Saleh
Mohammad Ashraful
Saqib al Hasan
Mushfiqur Rahim

only if saqib fails will aftab have a shot (he might have to battle tushar for a spot tho). but i would give saqib 2-3 tests to see if he belongs.

Yap! you are right. I forgot to mention SN, but again he only scores against weaker oppositions.

Play him at #6 for God's sake! He is no good at #3, especially when we know Tamim's going to fall early! Why lose two wickets in a row even before the game begins?

"Play him at the no. 6 spot please!" Oh jeez! If a specialist batsman cannot adjust his temperment to the situation and his position in lineup then he doesn't deserve to be in the team. Aftab is surely a talented batsman but he just wants to hit 6s, irrespective of the score, as if to prove to everyone he can hit. Napoleon complex perhaps.

I know what you mean. Or hes just hot-blooded...But now that I think of it, he should be given a couple of chances. Mind you, he played an amazing knock against Zimbabwe waay back in Jan/Feb. But ONLY if hes dropped down to no.6

why do we demand to drop some one from the team after each series?
can't we wait two three series and then demand some ones head?
if we start dropping people after each series then we will have only the coach and coaching stuff to play cricket.

After reading the title of this thread, I knew I shouldn't waste my time in it. So didn't even bother checking all this time.

Anyway, akabir's post is the only one I read, just coz it's above this box I'm typing my post into. And from what I can see, I agree with him completely. Problem is, we expect every member of the team to perform in every series. Guys, we're not Australia for God's sake.
