Yes, agreed, totally
Only issue comes when the definition of "limit" comes into play but I guess the idea is not to say something you would not do in polite company.

Salam and welcome, MIG_PP.
I find applying "daughter rule" is very effective. If I feel that my daughter should not see a post, I think it has crossed the line. I have quite a few very good Pakistani friends and know a few others that I cannot stand. Unfortunately, every nation has its bad apples.

Welcome MIG from PP. Let us maintain a friendly discussions in both of the forums. Just one suggestion, don't use terms such as Bangla fans. Instead, we prefer to be called either Bangladeshi or Bengali fans.
Enjoy your stay here.

The "daughter rule" is practical, but another rule can be even better. Could I show it to the beloved Prophet (SAWS) without being ashamed. If we cannot, then a practicing Muslim should not indulge in such talks.
Finally, Muslims, Hindus, Christians, atheists, all should try to be civil. Medical Science has found that it is good for one's own health too.

Mods, you may have to ban me for the following inflammatory remark, but I simply can't resist:
Dal-Bhaat-Ilish rules, roti-kebab sucks.

Not really. How would I know how a historic person would behave in a certain situation? But, you can probably call the rules related.

Just one query!!
Does bashing our own countrymen for carrying opposing teams flag counts as in insult for the opposing team?

You can have banter when the teams are off equal quality i.e pak/india.
With bangladesh you can't because pak is much better then us so they will beat us quite easily. Even if we beat them in 1 game, it is a upset, not a victory.
There should be mutual respect between the both sides fans but I dont see where the rivarly comes in.

My sons best friend is from Bangladesh, I pray next to my Bangladeshi brothers in a mosque - for most of us, the past is another country.
Rivalry in cricket is healthy for the game - if Bangladeshi fans feel that their team is as good as Pakistani then they have every right to consider us as rivals.
I guess the gist of this thread from this forums pov is to ensure that we keep the banter within limits of civil discourse.

I have many many Pakistani friends as well and few of them are very close. My older brother's best friend is Pakistani and I am very close with him too. He treats me like his younger brother and I respect him a lot.
I agree with you. Bangladesh and Pakistan has similarity in history, culture, religion, and tradition. On those spirits, we should maintain civil discourse. After all, its just a cricket match and we should not bring past politics into it. I might have digressed a bit but that was in reference to a previous post.
Let us enjoy the series in a peaceful manner.

Infact, I myself am guilty of writing something on our forums for which I have apologised.
In short - lets have good mannered banter withotu insulting each other.
Inshallah we will have a great series and hope we can emerge as friendly rivals!

Walaikum Salaam, MIG. I'm "Bangla Tiger" on PP, although my post count has remained stagnant for a while. You'll see me more active here. Hope we have a good series ahead of us. I think you will find us a bit more competitive in the ODIs and Tests!

Since we're trading life stories, I guess I will go next.
I go to medical school in the Caribbean. Students come from all over the US and Canada, and a handful from other countries and have very diverse backgrounds. White, black, rich, poor, educated families, and not so learned. We have some students who are old enough to be the parents of some of their classmates, proving its never too late to follow your heart's dreams. I've learned a lot just from this short segment of my life. Amongst my closest friends, I have an avid supporter of the Tamil Tigers on the one hand and a ardent fan of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale of the Khalistan movement on the other. Before I met them, I had never even heard of Khalistan. When I invited a few of my Gujarati friends to our MSA picnic, I made sure to have veggie patties and veggie dogs on the grill (unfortunately most of those got eaten by the time my friends showed up).
But my absolute closest friends on the island were Pakistani kids. Some of them, I had a lot in common with. Culture, upbringing, religion, etc. Others not so much, but we just clicked. And I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

As long as you're not waving their flag, that's cool.
And they better not expect you to speak Errdu with them...that really drives me up the wall.

I don't have any problems with Urdu since its not an ethnic tongue. Its no different than walking into walmart and being expected to speak English. Now if someone expects me to know or learn Sindhi, Punjabi, Balochi, Pashto, Hindko, Seraiki, or Brahui I'd take issue to that, because I'm not any of those ethnicities. Well maybe not Punjabi since it sounds so gangsta, lol.

That rule reminds if the joke when Mohammod Bodrul was lunched in front of a mosque for telling his name (he was able to say just part of his name, could not say the "rul" part).
