Why is this really happening? Is it salary or something else? I am just curious, not that I am looking for conspiracy theories. It does not make sense for opening fire just for salary.

totally agree...shoot one of the corrupt ones if they like but killing innocent people on the street is just the wrong way to go about it

PM announces amnesty for BDR mutineers

Star Online Report
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced amnesty for the soldiers of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) who mutinied today.

State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak, who attended the meeting between the prime minister and BDR representatives, told reporters that the mutineers were granted amnesty this evening.

The prime minister also urged the BDR members to surrender their arms and return to barrack.

A 14-soldier BDR team went to the prime minister’s official residence Jamuna for talks.

Mutinous BDR members earlier said they would call a ceasefire after holding talks with the prime minister and Home Minister Sahara Khatun.

Nanak said the prime minister would hold a video conference with the BDR jawans at Pilkhana in a bid to calm the situation.

Heading to an end? Hope they dont do more harm. Is this 'amnesty' means no charge against anyone??

Just got some news from inside(not verified). All the officers who were in the darbar hall were killed. Some houses were burned. At least 28 officers were killed. I know one officer in the inside.During darbar, he was in his office, now he is into hiding inside the compound. The media's are saying that the jawans have stopped the killing. But they keeps coming to his hose in search of him. His old Father in Law is in there with his two children, his wife is outside the compound and safe. The two children are aged 9 and 7. The officer I'm talking is one of the nicest persons I've ever met. Please pray for him so that he can get out of this mess alive.

Yap, no charge against them.
The BDR jawans are asked to surrender, deposit back their weapons and return to the barracks without any more fuss.

As it looks now, the immediate situation has been diffused. But i believe the stories of the day will unsold itself as the night progress.

More bad news coming in:

Apparently the BDR is refusing to surrender arms to the Army, all for the obvious reasons.
Video conference with the PM is going on atm i believe.

Just news in:
NTV reports, quoting Fazle Nur Taposh, MP of Dhanmondi, that we should have a positive news very soon.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Apparently, the BDR has rejected the clamency from the PM and is demanding a total withdrawal of Army personnel from all BDR barracks.
They will not surrender to the Army and will not work under their command anymore.

How much patriotic they are who killed innocent civilans?

If there were issues for dissatisfaction, those could have been brought to the government first? Last week, PM clearly declared more rationing for these criminals and smuggling helpers. One of my reltaive's home is close to the borders, so I know and see how destructive these BDR members are to our country.

If army kills them all, I will be happy.

But army, do not forget to kill your own criminals and corrupts as well.

This revolt holds back our rebuilding of democratic process and tarnishes our growing image in the globe.

Now it will be tough even to invite Barack Obama to visit BD and deliver his speech to the Islamic countries..

No matter what there will be a backlash once they give up arms. Killing civilian has consequences. Killing army officers have greater consequences. There will be court martials, executions. Doesn't matter of what the Priminister say. BDR jawans are no fool to give up arms with Army surrounding them. (if the rumors are true - with high ranked officials dead)

I fear the worst. With a violent ending.

The whole situation is just sad.

My mom just called, and she's apparently very scared. She's saying that the situation hasn't calmed down, and there hasn't been any resolution yet. What's amazing though, she's nowhere near Dhanmondi/New Market area...and still she's scared like anything.

I was told about this situation after I came to the office. My boss told me. Really scared about the security of people back there.

May Allah save peaceful lives and Bangladesh from any major disaster.

BDR jawans are deprived and have some valid points, but I am afraid they have taken the wrong route to get the things done. Now, scores of BDR and Army men will be killed and that will not help anyone in the long run.

I am a bit surprised by the severity of the incident. I cannot rule out outside influence on this to undermine Bangladesh armed forces and Bangladesh as a whole.

May Allah help us to resolve the situation without waste of any more lives.
