Default Hercules - vigilantism in BD

Interesting news in dailystar:

Quote:
Police yesterday "found" the body of another rape suspect with a note hanging around his neck in Jhalakathi's Rajapur upazila, in third such incident.

This time, the note reads, “I am Rakib. I am the rapist of a madrasa girl…of Bhandaria. This is the consequence of a rapist. Be aware rapists…Hercules.”

Thoughts? Keep in mind, these guys were accused of pretty heinous stuff, but not yet found guilty by the court.

As much as I want swift justice for the rapists, I cannot endorse mob justice and what happened above.

The problem with the mob justice is anyone can take opportunity of it. A group of police may kill an innocent person for whatever motive/reason, and attribute the killing to Hercules sticking a rape note from his neck.

The solution is massive reform of our broken justice system so that we can deliver swift justice.

One downside is Awami Leauge taking out people and claiming it was Hercules

Because of the sad state of our Judicial system, general population is Bangladesh was never vocal against extra-judicial killing.

Not sure how many here remembers "Operation Clean heart". It was followed by the formation of RAB. And till todate, we often hear people dying in cross-fire . We all know the true story behind the so called cross-fire but hardly anyone is bothered. Neither will anyone care about "Hercules" as long as he is not targeting innocent people.

All it shows is the sad state of our judiciary system. People do not trust the system at all.

Killing without due process never brings any good. Update of Hercules - seems it was another cold blooded murder for some other purpose:

হারকিউলিসের খোঁজে গিয়ে মিলল সরকারি গাড়ি

Great investigative journalism by Prothom Alo.
The journalist deserves somekind of accolade. He must also be protected from Govt agencies (like DGFI).
