Who should bat at number 3 for the World Cup?
This position seems to have a number of contenders now that one of the top order will most probably get dropped once Shakib is back.
We have the options-
Mahmudullah - Played here in the last world cup, made some memorable hundreds. Could be put here again if Sabbir is the finisher now in the side along with Saifuddin.
Shakib- In the T20s he has played in this position more often , can we afford to lose him early if he bats at 3 though. His quick run getting ability might also be needed in end overs.
Sabbir- Seems to have undergone a rebirth, however let's see how he does in the next series. He is more considered the final over hitter in the side. Played in this position before.
Mithun - He is having success in the middle order , will it be wise to move him into this position? Struggled in the one match they moved him here
Other more radical choices that could be considered-
Miraz or Kayes (incase of injuries)
Mushfiq

Being one of the 'Fab 5' seniors it is highly unlikely they will even think of dropping him

Are you interested to know what "they" think or what we think? If its the 1st, then shouldn't you rather send a mail to BCB asking their opinion?

Whoever it is, I hope it is a gut batsman who can hit the opposition bowler' s pitching straight out of the field without getting caught.
Yeah, it has to be a very good batsman.

Mithun is not a #3 Batsmen. Leave it to Shakib. we have nobody that is man enough to play at #3...Shakib record at #3 is acceptable. he can keep it.

It should be Soumya Sarkar.
Opening should be Tamim-Imrul.

Why that guy again? He gets starts and hardly converts them. Miraz has better technique and should bat at number 3

if tamim soumya or tamim kayes opens, i think sabbir will be a good choice for onedown or bring back naeem islam. he can bat anywhere and his spin will be useful. he has plenty of experience as well
or new comer yasir ali

It should be Shakib. He has been the most stable amongst the recent tries in that position.
I'd go with this for our starting XI for WC.
Tamim Iqbal
Imrul Kayes
Shakib Al Hasan
Mushfiqur Rahim
Mithun Ali
Mahmudullah Riyad
Sabbir Rahman
Mohammad Saifuddin
Mashrafe Mortaza
Rubel Hossain
Mustafizur Rahman

This is possiblt the best squad avaliable. However, if an extra bowler is needed, swap sabbir out for miraz or whoever is needed.

Imrul Kayes is better than Soumya and Liton but I don't think he will play well in English conditions.

I am interested to know what everyone here thinks on who should play this batting position , and since it is almost impossible that Mahmudullah will be dropped he will be one of those in contention for this spot given his history in this position. I can understand you want to drop him but unless you work for the BCB as chief selector or you are the BCB president you have to accept that Mahmudullah will be in the team for sure and some people might want him batting at 3.

Its also almost impossible that BCB will drop SS.
I can also say the same thing to you, " I can understand you want to drop SS but unless you work for the BCB as chief selector or you are the BCB president you have to accept that SS will be in the team for sure"
You want to bet on that?
Its too late to drop SS. SS was bad, but he was not the worst performer in this series. That honor goes to Tamim, Litton and Riyad.
I pointed out Riyad because he was in the list of suggested players replacing SS. The goal of replacing a player is to make the team better not worse. What is the point of even thinking Riyad moving to #3 when he cannot even handle lower order in this series?

I would rather drop Soumya since he never learns from his mistakes. One good ball and he is out. He couldn't survive Tim Southee's ball how is he going to play well in the World Cup. The World Cup is in England. And Soumya played horribly in the Champions Trophy. So you guys still want to include this moron in the squad.
