Steve Tikolo appointed as vice captain of Africa XI
Quote:
Kenya's cricket captain Steve Tikolo has been named the vice captain of the African team for the second Afro-Asian cricket tournament to be held in India.
Tikolo is one of the four Kenyans in the team that will be captained by South African Graeme Smith.
The other Kenyans in the team are Thomas Odoyo, Peter Ongondo and Hiren Varaiya.
Other players will be drawn from South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The Afro-Asian tournament which has been accorded official one day international ODI status by the international cricket council will be played in Bangalore and Chennai from the 6th to the 10th of June.

This is indeed a recognition of Tikolo's talent and ability.
He was in splendid form in the world cup.

Do we know any of our players got selected or not for those matches? Last time they only took BD players to fill out extra slots. I hope no BD players are selected. Waste of time.
By the way, anyone know the currency rate of Kenya Shillings?
The winning team will pocket 1.75 million Kenya shillings with each participating player being paid 350,000 shillings each.

If the converters I used work, then these should be the amount in US dollars-
1.75 million KES = $25618.83
350,000 KES = $5123.77

Making Tikolo the Vice Captain is a proper and BOLD descision. Not many would pick a Vice Captain from an associate country. Good job selectors.

It's not that. Four teams play. SA, Zim, Ken and Namibia. Namibia is a duut bhat. Captain and vice captain should come from two different countries. Usually captains of the teams are considered. Graham Smith is the captain, P Utesa and Tikolo were running for vice captain. It was a no brainer decision.

Utseya wasn't even selected...
Bit harsh, he's better than Johan Botha.
Botha:
Bowling averages
| Mat | Balls | Runs | Wkts | BBI | BBM | Ave | Econ | SR | 4 | 5 | 10 | Tests | 1 | 117 | 103 | 2 | 1/26 | 2/103 | 51.50 | 5.28 | 58.50 | 0 | 0 | 0 | ODIs | 11 | 438 | 361 | 7 | 2/49 | 2/49 | 51.57 | 4.94 | 62.57 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Utseya:
Bowling averages
| Mat | Balls | Runs | Wkts | BBI | BBM | Ave | Econ | SR | 4 | 5 | 10 | Tests | 1 | 72 | 55 | 0 | - | - | - | 4.58 | - | 0 | 0 | 0 | ODIs | 62 | 3187 | 2110 | 37 | 3/35 | 3/35 | 57.02 | 3.97 | 86.13 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Both the averages and strike rates are poor, but check out Utseya's economy... less than 4. Botha is edging on 5.
So neither are really wicket takers, yet they still go for the less experienced and more expensive Botha. Odd.

a suggestion for the future afro-asia cups. y not include the best player from namibia/uganda in the africa xi and the best player from nepal in the asia xi. imagine what can it do to the game in nepal to c their players playing for the same team as tendulkar, muralitharan, akhtar or for ppl in namibia/uganda to c their players playing in the same team as kallis, gibbs, pollock even if they just happen to play 1 odi and carry the drinks in other 2
