Anime Fans!
didn't see one here... so I thought of starting an Anime related thread... finding good anime is harder than finding good Steven Seagal movies... so this could be a useful thread to share info of recent anime you have watched/liked...
three fav anime of this year for me:
1. Claymore
2. Basilisk
3. Sword of the Stranger
currently watching Samurai Gun...

Great thread. With the semester over, I don't mind watching a couple of new series.
Some of my all time favorites:
Dragon Ball Z
This was the anime that I was first introduced to and I loved it right away. DBZ had always been controversial in the anime world with many claiming that it has no substance and the outrageous series length. But as a kid, I loved each and every 291 episodes. I mean who could forget the moment Goku ascended to a super saiyan for the first time in planet Namek? I still remember how I would come home after school and turn on Cartoon Network Toonami to watch an episode. Ah good ol days.
Rurouni Kenshin
Another classic anime on Toonami. Whereas DBZ might have lacked a bit of substance, this anime did not have any such problem. One of the main strength of this anime was the protagonist. Kenshin was someone that anyone would like right away. And his principle and general outlook on life was something that I loved as a kid and still do today. This series emphasizes a lot on the human element and character evolution. What I mean by that is no character is as invincible or as evil as they may be. There are instances you will see Kenshin's weaknesses and other times you might see the history of a certain villain. I must however note that the series gets quite plain after the Sishio Battle. I would certainly recommend the Samurai X ova series, which spans out before the anime series. The story line in that ova was a complete masterpiece along with the music.
I'll list some more of my favorites later.

Ah yes Cowboy Bebop is a great series. Haven't heard of any of the other four series that you have listed. BTW, have you watched Full Metal Panic? About the movies, most of the studio Ghibli movies are quite good. Haven't watched Akira but I hear it's quite good. NinjaScroll is quite good too.

i haven't watched Full Metal Panic... actually the art style and the high schoolish setting didn't draw any interest in me... these days the faces are getting even younger...don't know what hell is wrong with the japs...
You should definitely watch Akira.... there is a remastered edition available now... it is one of the all time classics...
If you like action then you will like Black Lagoon... the series gets better as you start to know the characters and the second season is really good...
Yukikaze: is about a artificial intelligence controlled fighter jets... the animation is this one is simply amazing... and highly recommended if you like sci-fi

Beyblade was the first anime I watched as it was hugely popular among kids in BD at that time. I was a bit too old when I watched DBZ TBH. Those senseless screams made me laugh. My favorite animes in no particular order:
Fullmetal Alchemist (Both versions)
Rurouni Kenshin (hated the movie coz it was too tragic)
Cowboy Bebop
Yu Yu Hakusho
Beyblade
DBZ
Naruto (fights were cool)
Bleach (pretty stale now though)
Slam Dunk
Prince of Tennis
Darker than Black
...I also liked an anime on vampires but can't remember the name.

If you have not watched "Death Note" then watch it ... you will be amazed on how twisted mind an author can be to even come up with a story as sick (in a good way) as that ... Code Giess is another one (I think i spelled it right) ...

These are not animes. These are animated, mostly Pixar movies. Animes are cartoons from Japan.

Code Geass I just finished watching it recenly, and oh my God, it was amazing, for me the best anime Ive seen (replacing Death Note as my previous favourite)
Ive never seen such a compelling anti-hero, extensive character developments, political elements of a global scale, battles of ethics (social/moral, politcal and philosophical), incredible sad and emotional moments, an very good music score and freaking amzing actions scenes of mecha soldiers all rolled into a single anime.
Attack on Titan Ive also been watching, its an ongoing anime, that has just finished their first season. Has a lot of potential.

Is anime a cartoon series?
I am from the space ghost, atom ant, popeye, Thundarr the Barbarian era. Then we watched Thunder cats if we were lucky (Friday 3:30pm).
With my son I watched Dragon Ball Z, Avatar - The last air bender. Enjoyed every episode.

Anime are cartoons of Japanese origins/style
Dragon Ball Z was produced in Japan.
Avatar is inspired by Anime style, but was not produced in Japan or intended for Japanese audiences.

I read mangas rather than watching the anime, unless it follows the storyline or if its just a stand-alone.
