Thumbs up Bengal tiger in "The Apprentice"

I'm talking about the UK version. This is one of my favourite shows - I love it. I think its one of the best things on UK telly right now.

Anyways, this year we have two Bangladeshis on the show. One of whom, Nargis, is quite crap to be honest having been fired on the second episode. The other, Syed Ahmed, is quite the opposite. He is the main centre of attention amongst the candidates and also the talk of the media. People either love him or hate him. I think he is great and doing Bangladesh proud.

The next show is on tonight at nine on BBCTWO and I hope Syed makes it through to next week.

So what are fellow BC members feelings? Does anyone watch it? Who do you think is going to win? What do you think of Syed? (you don't have to answer all the questions... although most would be nice :p )

Isn't it the show where a bunch of people is given an business project or whatever and each of them have to perform like an employee or something? I think I watched an episode of it.. didn't know there were Bangladeshis in it... there's a desi guy (wears glasses), very short hair.. is he Syed?

Yep thats the show and yes, that is Syed. They do jobs for Sir Alan Sugar (Founder of Amstrad) and the winner gets a job with Amstrad and a six figure salary.

From this link, you can watch all past episode catch ups. Just click on the episode numbers in the episode tracker. Then you can judge Syed's overall performance. I'm glad to say, he wasn't fired tonight.

If you have a Bittorrent client, you can download the episodes.

Personally, I am not impressed by Syed. He is basically a salesman (and not necessarily a very good one at that -- Paul is better), and hasn't really shown much skill as an executive. One could argue that he was at least partly responsible for the kitchen/pizza debacle; and I don't recall any task where one could say he was the lynchpin for victory. I am more impressed with the plump girl on the other team.

Here is Syeds profile on the bbc site:

Syed Ahmed was born in Bangladesh and lives in London. He has spent the last two years working as a director of his own IT recruitment company with a turnover of £1.6m.
He says: "I’m street-wise, I’ve been a sort of hell-raiser over the past 10 years and I think all that combined together has made me a business bad boy."
He cites an ability to think on his feet and strong powers of persuasion as two of his primary assets. Syed is an uncompromising character and is convinced he will be one of the highlights of the series: "Without doubt I think I will be the focal part of the show because I am passionate."
His first job was working as a Junior PR/Catering Manager for Titanic, part of the White Starline Group, owned by Marco Pierre White. Now he says: "£100,000 salary is not enough but it’s a good place to start.

i dont think syeds gonna win esp with his attitude, hes too aggorant and too big mouthed n i think he can be quite stuck up at times, he might have great ideas n be energetic, but i dont think its wat sir allan is looking for.

the apprentice, has been one of my most fave shows 4 the past 2 yrs, obviously i follow the uk one with alan sugar.

syed, maybe bangladeshi, but he isn't showing the attributes of one, nor showing any patriotism.

nargis ara. WHAT TYPE OF NAME.

nargis is flower. ara i think means with. with a flower. measly. anyway, off course she was crap cos she was a phd student in pharmacy- not a busniswise woman. so its pretty stupid 2 select her.

syed is alrght, and i want him 2 win. not cos he is bengali. NO. last year, there was this other syed, SAIRA, THE PAKISTANI, in uk version.

HOLY SHUX! SHE WAS A MONSTA!

Saira got offered a job by Sir Alan after the show was finished, but she turned it down. She wanted to focus on her media career.

Probably, but not every one wants to be famous, as Tim actually pointed out in an interview:

"I don't give a monkey's whether anyone remembers who I am from the TV and I'm certainly not a celebrity," Campbell says with gusto. "That's not why I got into this. I'm here to do business and I aim to be a success."
Whether he cares for the recognition or not, he still gets asked by puzzled commuters why he's travelling by train rather than in a chauffeur-driven car. "They know me from the show but seem to think I'm living a millionaire lifestyle. Truth is I'm working my a*** off and making the most of an incredible opportunity. I would be happy if I never appeared on TV or gave quotes to a newspaper again."

The full interview can be found here: http://www.integra-skincare.com/mlm....8-10-2005.html

The last episode shown was episode number 9, if that helps.

Check your PM Orphy.

*** Spoiler Alert ***

Syed got really really lucky. He is full of himself and can't always walk the talk. He dodged the bullet this time because the Chinese guy messed up bigtime. Even a half decent performance by him would have kicked Syed out. He tried to play the leadership card but it backfired.

I also agree with what he said after he was fired. Like him, I too don't see Syed making it to the end. But then again, you never really know with these shows.
