All...Shakib and Rubel had to do is, take at least 1 wicket each... That would have made the day, ours....Shahadat and Gazi would get some support...

if Mullah is unable to take a wicket, how he becomes the number 5 bowler...we badly needed Sunny...

1st day's situation is quite expected. I was rather suprised to see four specialized bowlers in the squad while two of them are seamers who we seldom rely on. We must have needed Sunny in the squad. Anyway, tomorrow's approach should be defensive, i.e., the bowlers should concentrate on line and length to reduce the run rate. And only then, the time can be killed.

no doubt that our bowling sucks or we could/should have done better but it's also true that cricket indeed is a batsman's game specially on a flat or batting wicket.
I still remember how well NAfis and Sakib played vs Pak, and recently how well Aus played against the world's most fierce pace attack of Steyn-Mokkel-Highlander.

This things happen in test cricket regularly but good teams know how to bounce back, by bounce back I mean the team bowling first should come & bat long and avoid follow on, might not take a lead but atleast make the opposition bat again & give their bowlers a second chance, and draw the match or make it exciting for both parties.
Can BD do that?

Well what can i say? lovely turn around from the lads, was a little concerned when we lost three early wickets but Powell was just an absolute dream to watch, what a talent he's turning into, he was hitting it to all sides of the park with total ease out there, and of course Chanders was his usual self, 360 is a good effort on day one and hopefully that will set us up to get around 450 now,

I'm looking forward to seeing what our bowlers can do on this track, it did seem to turn a little and i'd expect it to turn more tomorrow, Rampaul and Best will use the new ball and then Narine and Permaul will take over, with Sammy and Samuels also in the mix,

This is a good batting track and the better batting team will have the advantage and it isn't us.

WOW!!! SIMPLY WOW!!! I woke up this morning expecting WI to have around 250 or so runs but to see 360/4 on the board. That is just simply.....MARVELOUS!

Bat on guys, a double century for Shiv and a century for Ramdin should be on the cards here and we only need to BAT ONCE.

What total are you guys expecting from WI here? I would think anything over 500 should be more than sufficient.

Mirpur have total 8 wickets. $ wickets are seamers friendly which are used in domestic matches. 4 are Flat which are used internationally. U know all the grass of the wicket has been cut yesterday to make it flat.

Two left-handers, the youngest and oldest members of their side, combined to put West Indies in a dominant position on the first day in Mirpur. Bangladesh, playing their first Test this year, were competitive before lunch but faded against Kieran Powell and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who struck centuries on a good batting pitch. The highlight on a tough day for the hosts was the performance of debutant offspinner Sohag Gazi, who overcame the worst-possible initiation into Test cricket to finish with three wickets. . . . . http://www.espncricinfo.com/banglade...ry/591056.html

When the other team's RR is at 4, flat pitch or not, the bowlers let loose way too many boundary balls. No surprise that the pacers were the worst of the lot. Just shows how we badly needed to pick Sunny for this match. It's time we start using Shakib more as a 3rd spin option. Let him focus more on being a batsman. He can't be superman all the time because he's a human after all and we're already seeing him deteriorate.

Credit to the WI batsmen though. They were attacking our bowling from the start and did not let our bowlers settle at all. Chanders again showed why he's such a class batsman.

For the WI, their focus will no doubt be getting 550-600 and then declare if we don't get them out by then. For us, we'll do well from here if we can bundle them out at around 450-500.

Our batsmen are going to be under pressure tomorrow and the match depends on them. WIth an 8 man batting lineup, we better put up a big score.

Assalamwalaikum my bangladeshi brothers.

I am deeply dissappointed with the performance of the players today. While we fans and players whine about the lack of test cricket played by our players, we completely ignore the fact that these guys: Tamim, shakib, mushfiq, rubel, riad, these guys are not new to Test cricket. So what if you didnt play enough tests? You could have played more first class cricket.

Our mindset is the problem, not our ability. We have players with a lot of talent. My cricket coach used to tell me that cricket is a sport that has much more to do with the brain rather than the body. Our players need to get their mindsets right.

I will be devasted if we don't manage to Draw this game. The team has 8 so called genuine batsmen. If we can not play Narine and Co in a Batting Paradise Pitch, then I have nothing to say. Inshallah its time for Mushfiq & Mahmudullah to step up their batting. we are pretty sure that West Indies will easily score 500 or maybe reach 600. Boys should gear up to bat for long. someone needs to score double century.

The pitch will get better at 2nd/3rd day. It's not a typical test wicket that will further deteriorate as the match progresses rather 2nd/3rd day is the best for batting here. Not all hope is lost but must say it was poor team selection to play so many batsman, Sunny should have been in the team.

Ordinary performance. I went to sleep when they were 150/3. I was dreaming that we bowled them out and Tamim is blasting in the 1st innings. Woke up and saw 361/4

This is what happens when you have absolutely clueless selectors and team management at your disposal! The best bowler on this batting pitch would have been Enamul. You don't need extra batsmen and alrounders, if they are off form. Just look at west indies. They know it's the specialist spinners match, so they take two. We all know Shakib is not 100%, he has been struggling with bowling everywhere...and you battle against the mighty west indies with a debutant off spinner? That's all? And shatter his confidence by bowling him first over? What's the point even taking the second pacer. We would have been so much better off with no pacer actually, and bring in Razzak, Enam instead. Sunny should have played in place of Riyad.

The first day outcome clearly indicated there was no solid or intelligent gameplan, extremely poor team selection, lack of motivation in the team, the coach don't have a grasp or control over this team, captaincy needs serious improvement and the players need to practice in the exact similar pitches in NCL going forward. According to a newspaper some of our batsmen were not happy about this pitch! The pitch is unfamiliar to them! Well we have to utilize the home field advantage at any cost. The ticket price needs to be lowered to bring more crowds. First test of the year and we can't fill 5 percent of the stadium!

Overall we need to revamp our coaching staff and selection panel. Our selectors need to take the pitch condition and Analyze the oppositions much better. More damage is being done off the field than on field! We are losing the match before it even starts! Until we fix all this I don't see any point blaming our players....

You can't blame the players
too much...why 2 rounds of NCL was not played in the exact same or similar pitches? They were playing bouncy pitches, which is pitch number one, now they are playing on pitch number 4. In this pitch ideal bowlers are Enamul and Sunny, even Saqlain Sajib. Even Razzak. This is not a pitch for OUR pacers. Unfortunately their pacers will do better in this pitch. More importantly with two specialized spinners they will cause lots of trouble...I highly doubt we will see day 5

This has been said before, but the lack of a good FC cricket structure is dooming us. Everything else is band-aid.
