Should Mahmudullah be Replaced/Dropped?
It's been a utterly poor performance by our so called Vice Captain Mahmudullah Raid. He seem's to struggle most of the time at crucial point in the match when Bangladesh needs him the most. In terms of batting do we have better/good players that are capable of replacing Mahmudullah?. I think another option could be just replace him with Shakib and Keep the same team. I mean ofcourse drop both Abul Hasan + Rubel hossain and let Mashrafe and Zia take control of our bowling unit.

I think Zia will be a good bowler for Bangladesh. Much better than Abul's etc. I don't mind Zia playing as long as he bats @ No.8.

I think we should give him some time, knowing he had some injuries previously.
it will be refreshing to look at his domestic bowling stats, way better then xyz.

I completely agree, as he plays in that position he should be a player who can win matches and back to the crease not to the other way round and we cant drop any player in place of Sakib other than him.

I know this sounds weak, but Mahmudullah is still looked upon as wicket taking bowler. Mushy depends on him for breakthroughs, and he did that for his team today, despite failing with the bat.
And as for dropping Zia before Mahmadullah, I don't know. This series makes Zia no.3 in the pacer pecking order imo after Mash and Shafiul. Don't want to say anything about Nazmul because for all we know, he could've flopped too in this series.Needs to stay injury free. And no. 3 in a pacer pecking order is invaluable because Mash himself is injury prone. So who will Shakib replace? I don't know. Depends on the situation I guess.

1. Add poll.
2. No, we shouldn't drop him.

In T20 yes
In ODI maybe not now
In test No way. He has the experience and skills to become a successful test batsman. He needs to bat up in the order though

Gavaskar once said Riyad is world's best #7 test batsman..He has been batting at #7 for a long time. He got enough experience and now he should have the courage to bat up in the order or he will lose his spot very soon. We need him for our test side. Stats don't do justice all the time.
But he needs to man up and bat up in the order. Or else don't see him prolonging his national team career

I understand your point about Mahmudullah as a bowler but with the arrival of Shakib its done and dusted, I mean our bowling department is complete. Lets look at the likely bowling option we will have when Shakib returns ( Mashrafe, Pacer?, Shakib, Gazi, Razzak) do you see the need of Mahmudullah as a bowler anymore? if you wanted an extra batsmen then you could take Ziaur Rahman as the 5th pacer who can bat little.

Well, you have given two slots for pacers. But should the situation ever return that injuries and in-competencies force us to go with a 1 man pace attack. Then that 2nd pacer slot is freed up. So then the question will be, whether we go with another specialist spinner like Mosharraf( Shakib,Razzak,Gazi and Mosharraf as spin dominated strategy) or another all rounder( Zia or Mahmudullah who each have their strengths and weaknesses).
Like I said, depends on the situation, but yeah provided that the management will probably never go with less than 2 pacers(which I think is wrong as one can always strategize according to need),then Mahmadullah's position is perilous. Which will be so awkward as he is the VC.

Let's wait and see after ZM tour. Too early to judge. He had a bad series. Think of number of times Sir Ash was given chance even when he was making single digits. Riyad is generally a very clam and collected individual in the middle. We need him and Nasir to hold our middle order.
If he has a bad series in ZM then I think he'll need a rest.

He forgot to add, "when there is no pressure of winning".. I would say Riyad is the best batsman in any position, if there is no expectation to win... He has to either be in a situation where winning is out of the equation or you have allow him to take the team to that situation... He will score minimum a fifty in every such match...

I don't want him to play a good inning like he played against WI T20.... He basically will score big 50 but will take winning out of the equation...

May be gavaskar was sarcastic because we are essentially playing a top/middle order batsman at no 8 (8 because gavaskar did not see nasir bat at no 7 yet is my assumption) when that position belongs to a bowler or a bowling allrounder essentially.

He is as effective as dilshan is for SL or gayle of west indies but look where the likes of dilshan and gayle Bats. He is an effective bowler no question about that its just that this team needs a stable batsman at the top not with the tailenders.

in tests he averages like 16 or something batting in the middle order after a good amount of innings (this includes batting at #7). he's batted at #7 only once in tests and scored 18. done it a lot in ODIs with a good average but strike rate is only 73, that's not good enough for a #7 in ODI cricket.
in tests he bats at #8, do we really want a batsman at #8 in tests taking up a bowling spot? plus he can't really bat any higher than #8 because he seems to fail so often when he does meaning he'll probably only contribute if he bats at #8.
in ODIs he simply doesn't suit batting middle lower order. averages 22/23 batting at #6 in ODIs from a decent amount of innings, 28 at #5 from 3 innings, no average batting at #4 but did get a 68* from his one innings there and 35 from his one innings batting at #3.
so basically, tests are a no no imo (prefer at bowler at #8 than riyad. in ODIs he's a no no for #7 or lower but hasn't played enough batting 3-5 to know if he can hack batting that high in ODIs, though his test record would suggest he can't. so he could be given some chances batting 3-5 in ODIs, if there are spots available, will be tough when shakib comes back for riyad to claim a spot that high in the order.

Lets see what happens after all the guys return back from injury. I see a strong competition for places now and no player should feel his place is for granted. Not even Tamim and Shakib. Ryad was essential when we were a less stronger side. Our strength has increased a lot due to guys like Nasir, Gazi, Anamul and Mominul coming in and performing like they have 10 years of cricket under their belt. The era of crisis management and getting the team to respecable losses is over. Now we go fr the win or go down trying. Under the new circumstances Ryad might find himself challenged if he doesn't start scoring consistenly in the middle order.
