Didn't ask for BD.
Asked for UK/USA.
And it is not confirmed by moulana/ramjan committee.
Don't talk like an idiot.
It is confirmed by The National Moon Sighting Committee, headed by the State Minister of Religious Affairs. Secretary of the MoRA is the Vice-Chairman of the committee.
The committee works every month to determine the beginning and calculate the Arabic Hijri calender which is based on lunar cycles, subjected to its sighting. Only reason you get to hear more about them during Ramadan/Eid(s) because of the significance and practical relevance in our modern daily lives.
AFAIK, almost every country and specially those with sizable Muslim population has a moon sighting committee.

^ thanks for sharing the knowledge. . i am illiterate on this so don't have much idea about it and couldn't name them with their designation. i also find it hard to get the scientific reason how they miss the sighting of the moon while people in the east having similar latitude can see it..

Looks like this year, "almost all" in the west are starting on Wednesday
After Zuhr today, Imam was giving some Ramadan tips..Few important points --
1. Daily intention is necessary -- As we all know, all actions in Islam is based on intentions. So before fasting make pure intention. It doesn't necessarily have to be in Arabic and recited out aloud. Make intention in your mind that I am fasting for the sake of Allah in the language we feel comfortable. But need to be made daily. If there is a fear that we might not wake up before Fajr, then make the intention before sleeping.
2. Sehri is recommended and has blessings -- delay it as much as possible but obviously before Fajr. It has many blessings and is one of the things that differentiates Muslims from the People of the Book (Sehri was not allowed for them back then). So have even a glass of water if possible.
3. Hurry for Iftar -- As soon as you hear Azan, break fast. No need to wait for the whole Azan to finish.
4. If you can feed the poor and needy. We all have poor relatives or know someone very poor in Bangladesh or outside. Help them. Even a mere $10 can help 1-2 people and we will get the full reward of that fasting person, but his/her reward won't be reduced.

I truly miss Dhaka Ramadan time. Not only because of the delicious food but how empty Dhaka roads become for half an hour during Ifftar time. Also watching the Rooafza ad during ifftar time.
