Top 5 Worst Commentators
After much deliberation...
5. Amir Sohail (the most biased commentator I've ever seen)
4.Shamim Ashraf Chowdhury (has about 100 words in his cricketing vocabulary).
3.Ranjit Fernando (master at paraphrasing what the other dude just said)
2.Navjot Singh Sidhu (prima dona anyone?)
And the winner is....our very own....
1.Khodabox Mrida (please God, let the ground open up just once when he says 'bowler's backdrive' for the upteenth time).
Your thoughts?

I can add 1 more to the list.
During the current Ind-Pak series, whenever I sit in front of tv, Sanjay Manjrekar mentions about Bangladesh in every comment on Ten Sports channel.
And those aren't good comments either.

Khodabox may be low in quality, but he is very high in entertainment value.
Even higher entertainment value is Chowdhury Jafrullah Sharafoth! He is one in a million.

U be on crack dude. I've been listening to Benaud practically since I was born and he, along with Jim Laker, is probably considered one of the doyens of cricket commentating. He belongs to the old age school of cricketing who believe that the essence of cricket commentating is silence.Fine stuff, Benaud.
On another note, I've been following Sanjay's commentary throughout this series and the few times he has mentioned Bangladesh, don't think he's been wrong. One of the few Indian commentators who can actually jingoism behind while commentating (you listening Mr. Gavaskar?).

Manjrekar is quite decent!
I have also followed his commentery and I found it quite balanced...don't remember him making any wrong comments about Bangladesh..keeps it cool at all times...decent!

i've not heard any commentry for a long time. but still can't forget one of the khoda box's dialog during malaysia ICC tropy.
"............. chamot-kar sweep shot, long off thekay kurie ferot pathaber agayee......."
of course a veteran commentator like him can't make mistake. so, how its possible? after a 2-week long investigation this is what i figured out......
i guess, "forgot cricket" is the best place for this thread. ja bolsilam ar ki......
the player was standing showing the bowler his butt and facing the keeper.

I second Piranha
No list of worst commentators is complete without Shorafoth. I'm sure no one who heard it will ever forget his Nkala comment. It was so racist, I don't even want to quote him. I like most English umpires, Boycott of course, Gower, Botham, Greig, Willis, but David 'Bumble' Loyd really winds me up. I don't know why, probably the Lancashire accent. I love Benaud though, I love the way he turns all the S's into Sh's. Shuper Shixes!

i agree with you. i was watching the test in the net other day and he was talking about swags shot and mentioned Ateher Alis name and said hopefully he is watching that from home... i don't know what he ment by that but i notice that SOB always mentions BD name in bad ways and i also have to say Jafarullah sharafat can't even speak bangla let alone giving comentry how the hell he get chances????

Thats because Atahar mentioned that Shewag is weak on the moving his feet and driving the ball.Manjrekar disagreed. That shot was to remind Atahar that Shewag can drive with his feet.
Not everyone is a Bangladeshi critic you know :P

I think u r wrong about manjaker. He says stuff against bd so often that he some times forget thats its not even bd match. I remember saying some thing bad about bd in a ind-pak match where bd was not even in the series...
and you forgot how he and shohel ganged up on Ather so early????
I think attitude wise he is the worst. worst then Kohda box
And knowledge wise i though jafarulla sharafat was worst then box.. he can't even prounce some easy bangla word.. and have zero or minus knowledge on cricket...

One of the most biased commentators is Gavasker. His knowledge of the game is extensive, but he is overly sensetive to even the slightest perceived criticism of India first and Asian teams second (with the exception of BD perhaps). In his eyes Tendulkar can do no wrong and anything English (grounds, players, umpires, administrators.....) is bad. Many times he comes across as petty. But his standard of commentary is good.
My favourite commentator of all time is England's Brian Johnston who sadly passed away in 1991. The funniest commentator ever.

one feels that the radio commentators are always better. but these days there is no radio.. one wonders how the likes of entire BBC team of Brian Johnston, Baily, Freeddie Trueman performed in TV... it is so easy...
analysys wise: Ian Chappell is best.. and he is still getting better.
talking about worst: how do we forget Ramiz Raja.. among the Indian commentators: there is an interaction between good commentary/cricketting sense and the biasness/ narrow mindedness. As mwrkhan points out, Sunny gavaskar is good on the first one.. but other problem just overshadows the first quality. Overall except, siva rama krishnan, Harsha and Shastry all of them suffer from some complex..( not sure Sidhu wil fall in the worst list..he has the spirit, humor and guts to call spade a spade)..

Amir Sohail gets on my nerves. He was literally querelling with Athar Ali KHan on Bangladesh's tour of Pakistan. Every boundary that Bangladesh got in the series were "lucky" and every boundary of Pakistan were "excellent shot". Similarly when Bangladesh Batsman missed a ball he used to say "The bowler is unlucky not to have the edge".

"Bowler ei matro taar trouser khule umpire er haate dilen...."
Asif,
Does it mean Bowler has opened his trouser and given "something" in the umpire's hand?
Now i apologise if i am wrong on this, but that what it acme out to me.
If i am right, heck i'll be rolling on the floor laughing. Well, i already am.
