Farcical decision tonight.

No way did Marquez lose that fight, robbed again - boxing is a sham.

I won't be wasting my time with this **** anymore, might as well watch WWE or the other scripted crap kids watch.

Default The boxing thread

Ayo, what's popping?
Any boxing fans in the Tiger farm?

There is huge buzz in the air with the Mayweather-Cotto fight this Saturday. Seemed like an apt time to start this thread to discuss all boxing, provided there is enough following of course.

Two easy questions to start everybody off.

1. Top 3 favorite fighters of all time?
2. Top 3 favorite fighters today?

My answers:
1. Muhammad Ali, Roy Jones Jr.and Nassem Hamed.
2. Amir Khan, Adrien Broner, Yuriokis Gamboa.

Bernard Hopkins vs Tavoris Cloud (GP Promo)

Am picking betting underdog Bernard Hopkins via Points - 116-112/115-113, in a close rough ugly fight, am normally good at picking fights, so if you were a betting man, I would take my Advice, put your money on Bernard Hopkins, you can more than double your money.

I know P4P lists have to consider actual achievements and both the Cubans I've mentioned are still a bit green, but that's only because most Cubans come into pro boxing late in their careers. You have to do a bit of guessing for fighters with not that many fights under their belt to see how they would rank in the future. Lara(unbeaten in my opinion, both the draws were a farce) and Rigo impress in every single fight.

But even after all that I'm shocked you included Garcia. Matthyse would be more appropriate.

Oh, and you mentioned Burns being one of your favorite fighters. I get it, being from the UK means slim pickings, not that many good fighters. But do you think Burns stands a chance against Vasquez? Should be a great fight, but I think Vasquez gets the decision.
And for reason too, because if Burns wins and goes to fight Broner, that would be a massacre. I fear for Burn's health in that match.

Burns is hugely underrated, would have liked the guy if he was from anywhere, not spectacular just great fundamentals, He was Underdog vs Boderline P4P fighter Roman Martinez - beat him, Underdog About to be KO'd vs Katsidis beat him, Moses, Mitchell, list goes on, the man has fought tough competition, he is very humble as well.

Burns beats vasquez 116-112/115-113, close but clear. Broner beats burns in a close fight, around 116-112.

P4P list has to be based on fights they have fought (resume), firstly Lara has fought no one of note to be ranked ahead of Froch who has fought, Pascal, Bute, Ward, Kessler, Dirrel, Abraham, Taylor, johnson - no way can the cubans match that - combined, never mind alone.

Garcia is one you could argue with, but he has beaten Amir Khan, 2 time world champion, unified champion, Garcia is current champ at 140 bar none, I think Lucas and Khan (in rematch) beat danny, but on resume alone he has to be there, not easy being the man at such a competitive division.

Lucas is good, but he hasn't beaten anybody of note, okay i had him winning by a point vs devon and judah, but he aint supposed to be taken to a decision vs judah, khan dealt with zab in 5. Lucas's best win is ajose, a guy who is only boderline top 10 at 140.

P4P list = the elite list, sure danny, might not be there, but if khan would have beaten danny i would have had him above garcia at number 10, Garcia may not be elite, but he has an elite win over Khan, which Lucas, Rigo and Lara don't have.

Rigo has the chance vs Nonito, but he will lose decision if his chin holds up.

Okay. Here are my predictions provided there is no incompetence in the part of judges.

116-112 for Vasquez in Burns vs Vasquez.

6th round TKO for Broner in Burns vs Broner.

But I will admit I'm judging Burn's skills of just one fight, the one against Mitchell. From what I saw there, Burns has a questionable chin and very slow hand speed, and sluggish footwork. Broner knocks him out. And Vasquez circles around him all night, as Burns doesn't have adequate speed to cut him off.

Watch Katsidis fight and Roman Martinez fight, Did you realise Mitchell was ranked number 4 in the world at light weight, currently top 3 are unquestionably burns, broner, vasquez, winner of this fight should be ranked number one, winner vs broner = great fight.

He also beat Moses another fighter ranked above him in ring rankings

Burns has a good chin 7/10, can be dropped with flush hard punch by a puncher
(martinez) gets right back up, excellent footwork (he can move, opposite of sluggish) excellent defence, decent speead and power, vasquez hasnt got a sufficient offence.

Am not the only one who thinks highly of burns, robert guerrero who is excellent at picking fights e.g. peterson over khan, JMM over pac (III), he picks burns over anyone including broner.

Interesting. Didn't know this.
not really an attacking fighter, his footwork is good when he is circling his opponents like in the katsidis fight.

Zavek is good, Thurman has a lot of hype, only seen him once so cant really comment, But i've got hopkins in a close rough tough fight, Cloud is the betting favourite.

What does your P4P list look like

Hopkins became the oldest boxer to win a major title on Saturday night, breaking a record he set by beating Jean Pascal in May 2011 to become the undisputed Light heavyweight champ, scoring a 12-round unanimous decision over Tavoris Cloud to claim the IBF light heavyweight championship.

Hopkins, fighting his 19th title bout, improved to 53-6-2 in the main event of an eight-fight card at the Barclays Center. The 30-year-old Cloud fell to 19-1.

BHOP - "It feels good. It feels real good," "I'm going to Junior's (Restaurant and) I'm going to have cheesecake."

Cloud - "I was only average tonight,", "He hit me with an elbow but I'm not complaining. It is what it is."

Punch Stats: Hopkins 169/417. Cloud 139/650.

My Prediction - 116-112

Judges Scorecard's 116-112 x 2, 117-111

-----------------------
On the under card

Thurman won a 120-108 shutout on all three judges' scorecards.

Zaveck (32-3, 18 KOs) did very little against Thurman (20-0, 18 KOs) except show heart and a good chin.

Punch Stats: Thurman 217/817, Zaveck 110/397

Disappointed at Cloud. If you can't beat a 48 year old man, who can you beat? LOL.

Thurman is looking more and more dangerous with every fight. Height is always such a plus in boxing when you have the ring smarts to go with it. Can't wait to see who he fights next.

sure P4P lists are subjective but even if lara was undefeated, he hasnt got the resume, neither does Rigo, But it is subjective.

But apart from all that I think you forgot a fighter named Juan Manuel Marquez.

It indeed is subjective. I always look for form too, when coming up with P4P lists. Just because a fighter starts their boxing career late, doesn't mean their early performances shouldn't indicate a P4P contention, even though they are not as experienced.

Yes,it was hard to leave out Marquez. Perhaps he takes Klitshko's place because the competition at the heavyweight division is at its weakest. It was also very difficult to leave out Broner.
