Default Yet another article AGAINST Whatmore

Follow Up Story from the Asia Cup:

Its in Bengali

The article says that there are too many multi-skilled players in Bangladesh team - under Whatmore.

If we consider to take only specialist batsman and specialist bowlers then what happens?:

Specialist Team:

1. Javed Omar - Specialist Opener, doesn't know how to bowl at all

2. Shahriar Hossain Bidyut - Specialist Opener, doesn't know how to bowl at all

3. Hannan Sarkar - Specialist opener, can keep wickets, but has never kept wickets in normal circumstances

4. Mohammad Ashraful - was a multi-skilled player, now currently a specialist batsman

5. Rajin Saleh - a specialist batsman, but knows a bit of off-spin, he was thought of as a multi-skilled player - that's why Bashar gave him the ball to bowl in the last over of an ODI in the recent WI tour; but he proved to be a "PART TIMER" by giving away 6 runs and thus the match and so proved himself to be a non-multi-skilled player

6. Habibul Bashar - Only once, he took the wicket of Brian Lara with his off-spin, but since then he is not such a multi-skilled player

7. Mohammad Rafique - has 5 wickets in test matches on number of occassions, and recently has a test match hundred vs WI - so is he yet another multi-skilled player? He is, to those who wants him to open particularly in the One Dayers.

8. Tapash Baisya - He was a multi-skilled player when he started his International career - bats a bit and bowls a bit, - has a test match fifty and has taken a couple of wickets, if not less in his debut test. However, in 6 month's time, he turned out to be a specialist bowler and has been a bowler since then.

9. Tareq Aziz - Bowls a bit and can hang around for a while at the crease - so is he gonna be a multi-skilled player or is he gonna be a specialist bowler like Tapash?

10. Abdur Razzak Raj - Very much a bowler who can hit the ball like a tail-ender. So he is no specialist.

So, we got 10 players from recent times who are not multi-skilled players.

Multi-skilled players:

1. Khaled Mashud - He is definitely a multi-skilled player - wouldn't you say so? He has thousand runs under his belt in ODIs, even though he is the specialist wicket-keeper in the side. And furthermore, no batsman, bowler or (no other) all-rounder has 1000 runs, so he must be the top multi-skilled player of Bangladesh. And can we afford to let Bangladesh play without him (a multi-skilled player)? Don't forget, he has a test match hundred, too - which helped us to our first ever played draw.

2. Mushfiqur Rahman - has the best economy rate in recent times. Saves the team when 5 wickets go down early. May be he hasn't turned him into such an essential player to the team yet, however, his contributions helped us to win the first ODI after 5 years and to the draw.

3. Khaled Mahmud - may be we can let Bangladesh play without him, however, there is no denying his contribution to the ODI squad and there's his experience.

4. Alok Kapali - a batsman and a leggie - may be we can afford to let him drop for the moment, but that has got nothing to do with him being a multi-skilled player, and everything to do with him being out of form as a player (batsman or bowler - whatever).

5. Monjurul Islam Rana - another one, whom we can afford to let go. However, what does his recent ODI batting average say? Doesn't it say that he is in form?

Default The 249 against India

This article says in 1 point that in the last Asia Cup in 2000, Bangladesh scored 249 against India. Whereas this time, Bangladesh did not even reach 200.

I think I read it on Prothom Alo and/or Daily Star before.

Those journalists who write in bengali, they have this fact quite wrong. It was a poor Indian bowling attack (more like an India A side's bowling attack) and our batsman (i.e., Akram Khan) had just used the opportunity to smash them. Which only proves that our batsman at those times were better than an India 'A' side, that's all. (And I wouldn't burst into pride if I see that we were only marginally ahead of the 'A' team of a test playing nation).

However, all other times, we could never reach 200 against India because in those other times, India played their best bowling attack.

Look at Kumaran and Ganguly's bowling figures - I bet they bowled in the last few overs when Akram Khan and Naimur Rahman were batting.

Kumaran 9 0 54 3 (1nb, 1w)
Ganguly 4 0 35 0 (3nb)

Yes - that's true. It was a poor bowling attack from India. Akram Khan scored 20 runs off of Ganguly's last over. Someone needs to remind this writer about our other scores in that same asia cup - 170 against Sri Lanka and 87 against Pakistan.

Well I wouldn't kick the butt of the guy who wrote this...in fact I wouldn't kick the butt of anyone who criticizes whatmore...i believe that even the best performers do have lapses and are subject to criticism...

Whatmore has indeed made a couple of mistakes since his stay as the BD coach...but then nobody's perfect. He's doing a great job and his mistakes haven't cost us much upto now.

I do agree with you Mr. shahidul azam is jerk. I personally sent couple emails to him about his writing and mentioning that how did he writes without any facts. That fundamentalist write even did not know how to write an email in English. I think he is "Madrasa" educated guy. This article also written by him. Mr. Azam wants to bring back the Paki coach again!!

Whoever wrote this should know that, we have to include many multi-skilled players since are skilled players can be as bad any non-skilled players. If we didn’t have all these multi-skilled players in our team, we be losing both test + ODI matches with a big margin every time.

About scoring 249 against India was a one time show. I see our bowling attack was toothless back then. How could Guanguly score ton like that. He practically annihilated our bowling attack.
