The article says that there are too many multi-skilled players in Bangladesh team - under Whatmore.
If we consider to take only specialist batsman and specialist bowlers then what happens?:
Specialist Team:
1. Javed Omar - Specialist Opener, doesn't know how to bowl at all
2. Shahriar Hossain Bidyut - Specialist Opener, doesn't know how to bowl at all
3. Hannan Sarkar - Specialist opener, can keep wickets, but has never kept wickets in normal circumstances
4. Mohammad Ashraful - was a multi-skilled player, now currently a specialist batsman
5. Rajin Saleh - a specialist batsman, but knows a bit of off-spin, he was thought of as a multi-skilled player - that's why Bashar gave him the ball to bowl in the last over of an ODI in the recent WI tour; but he proved to be a "PART TIMER" by giving away 6 runs and thus the match and so proved himself to be a non-multi-skilled player
6. Habibul Bashar - Only once, he took the wicket of Brian Lara with his off-spin, but since then he is not such a multi-skilled player
7. Mohammad Rafique - has 5 wickets in test matches on number of occassions, and recently has a test match hundred vs WI - so is he yet another multi-skilled player? He is, to those who wants him to open particularly in the One Dayers.
8. Tapash Baisya - He was a multi-skilled player when he started his International career - bats a bit and bowls a bit, - has a test match fifty and has taken a couple of wickets, if not less in his debut test. However, in 6 month's time, he turned out to be a specialist bowler and has been a bowler since then.
9. Tareq Aziz - Bowls a bit and can hang around for a while at the crease - so is he gonna be a multi-skilled player or is he gonna be a specialist bowler like Tapash?
10. Abdur Razzak Raj - Very much a bowler who can hit the ball like a tail-ender. So he is no specialist.
So, we got 10 players from recent times who are not multi-skilled players.
Multi-skilled players:
1. Khaled Mashud - He is definitely a multi-skilled player - wouldn't you say so? He has thousand runs under his belt in ODIs, even though he is the specialist wicket-keeper in the side. And furthermore, no batsman, bowler or (no other) all-rounder has 1000 runs, so he must be the top multi-skilled player of Bangladesh. And can we afford to let Bangladesh play without him (a multi-skilled player)? Don't forget, he has a test match hundred, too - which helped us to our first ever played draw.
2. Mushfiqur Rahman - has the best economy rate in recent times. Saves the team when 5 wickets go down early. May be he hasn't turned him into such an essential player to the team yet, however, his contributions helped us to win the first ODI after 5 years and to the draw.
3. Khaled Mahmud - may be we can let Bangladesh play without him, however, there is no denying his contribution to the ODI squad and there's his experience.
4. Alok Kapali - a batsman and a leggie - may be we can afford to let him drop for the moment, but that has got nothing to do with him being a multi-skilled player, and everything to do with him being out of form as a player (batsman or bowler - whatever).
5. Monjurul Islam Rana - another one, whom we can afford to let go. However, what does his recent ODI batting average say? Doesn't it say that he is in form?
