Default Ashraful gets called for A team!

For those who cant read Bangla, BCB is arranging a 4 day match between HP and A team. The A team will have Ashraful, Taskin, Soumya, Imrul, Marshal, Al Amin, Sohan.

To be honest, I am very surprised by this. I thought Ash wouldnt even close to BCBs radar.. but it looks like he has been pulling some strings and maybe BCB is impressed by his recent fitness test where he topped everyone else.

But good move by BCB to arrange the game, there should be more whenever there isnt any NCL, BCL, BPL, DPL going on...

^ if ash is able to mature his batting like Mushfiq and co did with age, bonus for us for 2019 WC. However, am not so hopeful about it.

Good news. Hopefully he can perform well.

At the moment, I can only see him return to T20 team.

But the way Mosaddek, Sabbir, Soumya etc playing in ODI, who knows, Ash might have a chance.

Performance the key.

I also like how BCB isn't doing something stupid like bring back Ash just cuz Tamim is down.

I don't like it. Others are more deserving. Anyway, it's now sink or swim for Ash. He himself wanted a much later introduction I thought, judging by the interviews? He had said if gets a chance now, then it makes them easier to dismiss him after a few bad performances. On other other hand, if he earned his way back in, he would have gotten an extended run! His words, not mine.

It's not about "Who is more deserving". It is more about who can contribute the most to our team. His past and experience is an asset. In need, he can give you the most bang for the buck.

Sometimes we need to put our egos aside and in check.

If it was list A I could understand, he’s performed in that format more recently. I hope he does well but it’s unfair to other players who’ve worked hard and have earned a spot through performance. We aren’t talking about a senior coming back from injury, much different story.

Huh? It has nothing to do with ego. He has not proved himself recently to be capable. We have moved on from those days where players play because of experience. Other guys like Soumya and Anamul deserve more chances to come good than Ashraful does. They have shown much more promise in their short careers thus far, then Ashraful did in his entire career, costing the team so many times. All Ashraful is, is just a name, a prodigy brand, who got a test century at 16, and has been the epitome of inconsistency since then.

He is lucky he got this chance, and he should make it count. That is all.

I still think Ash has more relative weight.

There are others more deserving and have been consistently performing in the domestic sector. But it is what it is. Let's see what he can do.

I think Ashraful is the perfect #7 solution for us. I think he is up for it as well. please don't hate me for saying this, I want nothing but the best for each and every one who ever makes it to the National team and succeeds there, but I personally don't see Mohammad Mithun surviving too long in international cricket. I would hope to be proven wrong as Mithun has some very nice strokes in his arsenal but I would wait until he faces more potent bowling attack...

This is a match between A team and the HP team. Other domestic performers all already featuring in either of the two teams. This is more of a pre-first class season match practice. Those who are not playing here will still have the chance to prove themselves in the NCL. There is no problem with Ashraful playing it.

Why not give performers the A team spots and let ash prove himself in the NCL?

Either way he’s in the A team so hope he does well.

Tamim is injured, out of few months and Shakib will undergo operation during Zim series. I think BCB is considering Ash for Zim series if he really performs well.

If not for ODI & T20, Ash could be an option for Test team against Zim.

A team for our team is more of a consolation holiday for most players who aren’t in the main team.

Ashraful could be selected but I don’t think he will make it into the main team as younger players should get more chances

100% agreed. The only thing for Ash is his fitness as he has been out of competitive cricket for so long. Anyone who can handle Murali, McGrath, Shaoib and co can handle current opposition bowlers. What impressed me about him was his match analysis over the years he was out of cricket. He seems to have matured and certainly knows the high standard that is required to make this team. At number 7, he won't need to get big scores because we have 4 senior cricketers who can set the base till 45th.

As for Mithun, the scorecard reads half century but from what I have seen he looked clueless against pace bowling. Not convinced at all.

Our problem is that we are too fixated on that nostalgia feeling and would rather give those players chance after chance rather than look for someone new.

This is just an one off warm up game not an official one. Nothing would be recorded whether someone scores a century or duck. This so called A team was created so that the players get match practice before the NCL. Just because Ashraful was included in this team doesn't mean he will feature in the official A team tours. We don't even know when the next A team tour will take place. By that time if he does well in the domestics then he would more than justify his place in the A team(the real one).

There are some in this forum that like to repeat Liton mossadek and Shanto every two posts in every thread. Liton and Mosaddek are currently in the national side and we are getting a full picture of their quality contribution right now. Before the duck Liton was averaging 15. So obviously now Shanto is the next big hype. I am tired of young players making ZERO contribution to our team. If this means leaning back on nostalgia then so be it! This world cup is the last time we will have Mash as captain and therefore our best chance with the current group to do something memorable. I don't give a rat's behind if it means a junior player has to wait for his chance another 6 months. We need players who can get in and perform right away in english conditions. If Ashraful can perform in the A team and NCL, I will back him over any of these young "talents"

spot on.

I would personally want him to open with tamim. Of course given he earns his spot through domestic performance.
