That was an epic miss from Pantelic. There was no reason for him to not be able to put it in.

paraguauy: needs a draw and they are through.

NZ: win against Paraguay they go through. if they draw and italy also draw against Slovaks it will come to goals scored between NZ and Italy.

Italy: similar to NZ. need to win against Slovaks. if they draw also needs the other game to be draw and they must score more than Italians

Slovakia: must win. and also hope NZ dont win. if NZ win it, it will come to GD between slovaks and paraguay.

Slovakia coach Vladimir Weiss:

"Every match is a joy because it's a possibility to make us visible at the World Cup. We said before that we are not just here for a trip and we still have a hope to progress. But we are playing against the holders of the title, so it will be a difficult match. We want to be bold but rational because our opponents are the reigning champions."

Italy coach Marcello Lippi:

"We haven't been tormented by this wait, the confidence is there. We haven't done that well so far and we must do better. But we don't want this to be our last game. My lads have a great spirit and we just have to improve, especially in attack."

Paraguay coach Gerardo Martino:

"New Zealand have a different style to that of Italy but they also create other types of complications. We have a lot of respect for their physicality as they know how to exploit this. I can't imagine any coach who is not aware of this. I don't think it is going to be easy in any way."

New Zealand coach Ricki Herbert:

"We are going to go through the wringer. I can only say the heart will be on the sleeve and the performance will be as much as we can possibly give. If it is good enough to take us through - fantastic. If not then we will still be proud. The players are relaxed but confident."

BBC Radio 5 live's David Pleat at Ellis Park:

"It was an awful mistake by Italy, giving the ball away. It was switched to Vittek and he hit a beautifully placed shot. Not even sure Buffon would have saved that. What an opportunity now for Slovakia."

What happens if Italy and New Zealand both tie their respective games at 1-1? Same GD, same # of points, no H2H advantage. What then?

it will be a lottery .....

The ranking of each team in each group will be determined as follows:

a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings will be determined as follows:
d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between
the teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the
teams concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the
teams concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.

Thanks offstump bhai. I hope it doesn't come to that and Italy get kicked out by losing to Slovakia.

Italy do not deserve to be in the tournament. Go home. Take your buddies England, Spain and Portugal with you. Join France.

Bhuwa teams are degrading the WC year after year. We need Asia power.
