How would Athar be as Chief Selector?
We have lots of Debate about the current Chief selector Faruk Ahmed. Many of us are not happy with him, when Akram was Chief Selector many of us weren't happy with his either. Its a tough job to keep everyone happy but i dont think many would argue with reasonable decisions from the selectors
Unfortunately after Faruk took over selection looks confused and full with favoritism
Our Senior Member Kalpurush da mentioned about how athar will do well as chief selector.
What do BC thinks?
Here are my thoughts
He has been doing commentary for some years now and as a result he has shared com boxs with many great minds in cricketing world, among them are legendary players to cricket analysts. discussing with them surely made him more knowledgeable as we can see from his commentary.
from the looks of his comentary he doesn't look biased to any particular players, this will help him select team based on performance.
but i doubt he'll be offered the role of selector as he is the only BD commentator in ICC events. i don't think he'll want to give that up. i am not sure if commentators can keep their job and become selectors as well

Only thing against him is the fact he reckons Reajur Kallis is a t20 specialist..
Definitely a specialist in failure and a match winner ..for the opponents.

I am open to any new people as selector.
Howeven my impression on him is he may be too defensive in his selection (specially selecting ODI and T20). He doen't looked like a person who will be innovative and risk taker as a selector. So he may be more predictive and boring and may favor experienced, slow, out of form players over new, risky and talened players.
This is just my guess, but he may prove me wrong.
Right now anybody with cricket background and some kind of achievement will be better than Faruk.

he will not take the job. he has lots of gigs which conflicts with selectors job. no reason talking about this.

Seems like the first requirement for anyone to be a selector is, he must be a ex cricketer. I hate this. Just because such and such played cricket for BD, doesn't somehow make them an expert. I would love for us to put together a team of selector's who are qualified. If they played the game that's great, but it's more important that they understand the game. They need to have high cricket IQ.

Not a bad idea. How about this committee --
Shamim Chow - Chief Selector
Jafrullah Sharafat - Assistant 1
Nadir Shah - Assistant 2
I wonder how would this committee do....

Athar Ali favours Reza quite a bit. Heard him mention in some recent series about a bowling all rounder option. But since Ziaur Rahman has impressed everyone especially with his bowling. I think Athar as selector would be wise enough to go with Ziaur as the precious pace bowling allrounder in the team (which many feel is good to have these days at LOIS)
