Mahir, I would love to play with hard-ball, not all of a sudden but gradually as I haven't played cricket for long time now. But when it comes to everyone, I am sure a lot of us haven't played cricket for long, so I would prefer tape-tennis ball.

So, you guys have joined Bangla cricket clubs eh? Nice, nice. I was well aware of these clubs in the Toronto/Scarborough league, but I never had the time. So, who has actually joined the club? Is it you, bunty bhai or faisal?

Here's my story ...........

Watched the whole 1st innings on 56"inch TV, and on that huge screen, looking at ther way the fragile Indian batting line-up collapsed, added to the invigorated aura. There were several other Indians too, and were just feeling so uncomfortable as their expressions said it all! Had to return back after watching the BD bowlers dominate the Indians as I had to get up early the next day. By the time I had eaten my dinner, my ear started paining, and it reached the summit of agony, due to the pinnacle of my excitement when Tamin started playing around with the hapless bowlers. It was the same until, Mushfiq played that exquisite off-drive to get the winning runs, when all my pains were desensitized, and my heart filling with completeness of ecstacy that I had experienced on very rare ocassions.

The next day, the first person to greet me early in the morning, was a UAE kid of 14 years. Since I live in UAE, there were several more of my Arab friends from Tanzania, Iran and Egypt to congratulate me, as all these guys were supporting Bangladesh. And the fact that this victory was achievied in a World Cup match had caught everyone's attentions, even some locals, as cricket is gaining popularity fast amongst the Arabs in UAE. When I joined my subcontinental friends, most of them stated that from now onwards, 'we are Bangladeshis'. And any people who hadn't watched the match were looked upon by disbelief that how could they ever miss the sight of Bangladesh smashing India into oblivion. My friends are now all rooting for Bangladesh(except Indians!ofcourse) and giving Bangladesh a realistic chance of going to semis. To sum it up, I had never felt such kind of dominance and this was what I had been waiting for, gaining respect and praise from everyone around for my beloved country.

Dayum I saw two of my old schoolmates after six years at the toronto pic posted above, gharoa restaurant..

Anyhow, this has been the best win for Bangladesh in it's cricketing history from my perspective. It has been 6 long years after coming to US, that I have been in the receiving end of all the slurs and trash talks by the Indians against Bangladesh team... Our team couldn't have replied any better.

Few days back one of my Indian colleagues emailed joking about how Biman almost crashed in UAE, now I replied back with the title "Team India crashes hard in the shores of the carribean" ahh that was soothing..

It was an amazing day, although not as productive as I wanted it to be, but it was worth it! March 17, 2007 will be remembered for years to come. What a win and what a historic celebration in Toronto!

১৭ই মার্চ ২০০৭ দিনটা আসলেই অন্য সব দিনের থেকে আলাদা।বিশ্বকাপে ভারতের সাথে আমাদের প্রথম খেলাটা দেখবার জন্য কত দিন, কত রাত ধরে আমি অপেক্ষা করেছি। কত পরিকল্পনা করেছি । আমরা চার জন মিলে হোটেলে রুম ভাড়া করেছি, রান্না করেছি, আশায় বুক বেধেছি আজকে বাংলাদেশ জিতবে। সুরু হবে আমাদের জয় যাত্রা।


খেলা শুরু হবার ৮ ঘন্টা আগে সারা রাত জাগতে হবে বলে ঘুমতে চেষ্টা করলাম। বাসা থেকে বেশ দূরে ফরমুলা ওয়ান থেকে সুমাখার, আলনশো, কিমিদের গাড়ির শব্দে কান ঝালাপালা হতে থাকল। এখানে আসার পর আমি প্রতি বছর ফরমুলা ওয়ান যেতাম কিন্তু আজকের দিনটা শুধু মাশরাফি, রাজ্জাক, তামিম, আবীর আর সুমনদের জন্য। জানালা বন্ধ করে দিলাম, বাপ্পার গান চালু করে দিলাম তাও উত্তেজনায় ঘুম এল না। বিনা কারনেই বিছানায় এপাশ ওপাশ করলাম।

খেলা শুরু হবার আগে ছেলেরা আসতে লাগল। খাবার সাদা ভাত আর আমার বিখ্যাত ভুনা গরু। আফসোস ছিল রান্না করতে গিয়ে একটু পুড়িয়ে ফেলেছি। কিন্তু এটা নিয়ে আপত্তি করল না। ছেলেরাই সালাদ কেটে দিল। বেশি ঝাল বলাতে বলা হল এই রান্নার রেসিপি হল মেজবানের রেসিপি (মেজবান জিনিষটা কি কেন হয় এটা কোন চট্রগ্রামের কাঊকে জিগাসা করুন )চারিদিকে দেখি ঈদ ঈদ ভাব।


আমর সবাই গাড়ি দল বেধে হটেলে গেলাম। আমার বন্ধুদের মাঝে জনি আর নিবিরের খেলাটা খুব বুঝে। তাদের সব খেলোয়ারের প্রফাইল মুখস্ত। আমিও খেলাটা অল্প অল্প বুঝি। সুনলাম পরলাম আসরাফুল বাদ গোল্লা ইন । পরে কার দলে থাকা উচিত কার উচিত না এই নিয়ে গাড়িতে উত্তাপ্ত বিতর্ক হল। আমি সব সমই আমার প্রিয় খেলোয়ারদের ( আসরাফুল, রানা, অলক, মুশফিক) সমর্থনকরি। আর যাদের ভালো লাগে না (তুষার ইমরান, গোল্লা, পাইলট) ওদের বিরুধে কঠিন যুক্তি দেখিয়ে সবার মাথা খারাপ করে দিলাম।


আমাদের ছয় জনের সাথে শারিফ ভাইও যোগ দিলেন। তিনি টাক্সি চালাবে বললেও খেলা সুরু সাথে সাথেই দেখি টাক্সির নীল জামা পরে হাজির। “যাত্রিকে নামাতে পাশের সাবার্বএসেছি তাই ভাবলাম এদিকে যখন আসতেই হল, অমিকে শুভ জন্মদিন বলে যাই”। পরে চেয়ারে বসতে বসতে মুখে অনিচ্ছা ভাব এনে বললেন “খেলা যখন এখনি শুরু হবে প্রথম ৫ ওভার দেখে যাই”। পরে সেই ৫ ওভার ভারতের ৫০ ওভারের ইনিংস হয়ে গেল।

খেলা সুরু হল। টসে রাহুল জিতে বাংলাদেশকে আগে বল করতে বললেন। বল হাতে মাশরাফি প্রথম ওভার করতে গেল। হায় আল্লাহ এই সব কি দেখছি। মাশরাফি এত দ্রুত বল কবে থেকে করা সুরু করল। এগুলা কি বল নাকি মিসাইল। মাশরাফি বল করছে ১৪০ কিমি বেগে। আমাদের বুম বুম আফু ( আমার দিদির দেয়া নাম ) অসাধারন ড্রাইভ করে প্রথম ওভারেই ভেরুকে প্রায় অউট করে দিল। রান অঊট থেকে বাচলেও পরের ওভারেই আমাদের নরাঈল এক্সপ্রেস ভিরুর মাঝ স্ট্যাম্প উড়িয়ে দিল। শুরু হইল আমাদের গলা ফাটান চিল্লা চিল্লি। এক জনের গায়ে আরেক জন লাফাইয়া পরছি।

রবিন আসল। রবিন উতাপ্পাকে উতাপ্পা ( দক্ষিন ভারতের একটা খাবার) বানান হবে। আমি ওর খেলা আগে কখনো দেখি নাই। চেনা শত্রু থেকে অচেনা শত্রু বেশি ভয়ের। কিন্তু আমাদের নন স্টপ এক্সপ্রেসের বলে উঠিয়ে মারতে গিয়ে আফুর হাতে ধরা পরল। মাশরাফি খেলা শুরুর আগে বলেছিল ভারতকে দাবানি দেওয়া হবে। মাশরাফি খালি দাবানি না কঠিন দাবানি দিল।

খালি মাশরাফি বলছি কিন্তু অরেক প্রান্ত থেকে বল করছে আমাদের রাসেল। রাসেল বড় খেলায় বিশ্বের সেরা খেলোয়ারদের সাথেও যেভাবে বল করল সেটা দারুন। প্রথম ৫ ওভারে মাত্র ৮ রান। সে টানা ১০ ওভার বল করেছে। তার ১০ ওভারে মাত্র ৩১ রান। একটা লুজ ওভারে ১০ রান তা উঠলে ফিগারটা কথায় দাড়াত? নামের পাশে উইকেট নাই কেন এইটা আলিম দার ভাল জানে। অনেক বার মাশরাফি আর রাসেলের আবেদনে কান দিল না। মনে হল দুই আম্পায়ার আজ পণ করে এসেছে তারা আর যাই হোক আজকে ভারতের বিরুধে কোন এল বি দিবে না। জান জায়ে পার এল বি না হো জায়ে। আলিম দারকে বড় ভাইয়েরা না থাকলে দুই তিনটা ভালো কথা শুনিয়ে দিতাম। বেটা পাকিস্তানি

রবিনের পর যে মাঠে আসল তার নাম শচিন টেন্ডুলকার। দাদা আর শচিন মিলে ২৫০০০ রান করেছে। আজকেও কি তারা বাংলাদেশকে আবারো তাদের সেই যাদু দেখাবে। আর দাদা সবসময় বাংলাদেশের সাথে ভালো খেলে। এত অভিজ্ঞতা, এত রেকর্ড নিয়ে যখন তারা একটু একটু করে সেট হতে সুরু করল তখনি রাজ্জাক যে বলটা করল সেটা এক কথায় অসাধারন। শচিন অউট । আহা কি আনন্দ আকাশে বাতাশে। মাশরাফি, রাসেলের বলিং দেখে রাজিবকে কেন দলে নেয়া হল না এই নিয়ে একটা চাপা আফসোস ছিল। কিন্তু আমাদের দলে রাজ্জাক, রফিক, সাকিবের মত স্পিনার আছে এটা আমরা ভুলে গেলাম কিভাবে?

শচিনের পর রাহুল দ্রাভির আসলেন। সুমন আনলেন রফিকে। রাজ্জাক প্রথম ওভারে উইকেট পেয়েছে আর রফিকবা কেন পিছিয়ে থাকবে? প্রথম বলেই রাহুল অউট। রাফিকের আবেদনে আলিম দার সময় নিলেও অনেক সময় নিয়ে আঙ্গুল উপরে তুললেন। আমি সাথে সাথে তাকে সব কিছু মাপ করে দিলাম। আমি এখন জয়ের গন্ধ পেলাম। কি মধুর সেই গন্ধ।
ভারতের ‘আসব, বল খেলব, অউট হব’ নীতির মাঝে একজন ব্যাতিচ্রম আমাদের দাদা। the great wall of India মত দাদা আরেক দিকে এক প্রান্ত আগলে ধরে আছে। উনি অবস্য অনেক বল খেলে ফেলেছেন। আরে মাশরাফি, রাসেল, সাকিবদের বলে রান করা এত সোজা নাকি?

আমার ভয় ছিল ভারতের এত এত ব্যাটসম্যান এমন দুই জন নিশ্চই বড় একটা পারটনারশিপ করে ফেলবে। সেই পারটনারশিপ করতে করতে হাত খুলে মারা শুরু করতে করতেই রাজ্জাক যুবরাজ অউট। সাথে সাথে পুরা ভারত তাসের ঘরের মত ভেঙ্গে পরল। দাদাও দেখলেন ৪৩ ওভার খেলে তার মাত্র ৬৬ রান এর থেকে বরং লজ্জায় সাজঘরে ফিরে যাই। ধোনিত আছেই। ভারতের সোনার চাঁদ বদনি ধোনি কিছু বুঝে উঠার রফিকের বলে আগেই অউট।

ভারত সব উইকেট হারিয়ে মাত্র ১৯১ রান। শেষ উইকেটে জহির আর মুনাফ ৩২ রান না করলে ভারত ১৫৯ আটকে যেত। পুরা খেলায় অই ১০ আর ১১ নাম্বার খেলোয়ারদের কেই সাবলিল ব্যাট করতে দেখলাম। আমি নিশ্চিত চ্যাপেল সাহেব সাজঘরে জহির আর মুনাফের পিঠ চাপরে বলবে “ তোদের ব্যাটিং খুব ভাল হয়েছে, এর পরের খেলা থেকে তোরাই ওপেনিং করবি, আর শচিন আর শেভাগ বলিং শুরুকরবে”।

বাংলাদেশের সুরুতেই নাফিজ অউট হয়ে গেলেও তামিম খুব ভালো খেলছে। মুনাফ আর তামিমের মাঝে কি যেন রাগা রাগি হইল। কি কথা হয়েছে আমি টিভিতে বুঝতে না পারলেও আমার ধারনা। মুনাফ তামিমকে কিছু জিগাসা করেছে আর তামিম বলছে “ মুনাফ তোর গায়ের থিকা butter chicken, tandory chicket গন্ধ পাইতাছি , তুই drinks break সময় বেশি কইরা deodorent মাইখা আসিস

আমি খেলা শেষ হবার পরও মুগ্ধ চোখে টিভির দিকে তাকিয়ে থাকলাম। কি করব কিছুই বুঝতে পারছি না। আমার এখন কি করা উচিত? প্রান খুলে হাসা নাকি শব্দ করে কাঁদা।


মুশফিক, সাকিব , তামিম ভারতকে হারাতে বাংলাদেশ অনুর্ধ ১৯ দলটাই কি অনেক ভারি হয়ে গেল। তামিমের খেলাটা দেখে মনে হল বুঝি সেরা সময়ে দাদাকে বা সাইদ আনোয়ারকে দেখছি।ও আগে বারিয়ে লং অফে সে বিশাল ছয়টা মারল সেটা একটা নতুন যুগের আগমন বার্তা। মুশফিকের বয়সের থেকে অনেক বেশি পরিপক্ক। আর সাকিবের কথা আমি অনেক বলেছি আমার আগের একটা ব্লগে। মনে হল নতুন এক বাংলাদেশের জন্ম হল। যারা খালি জিততে জানে, লড়াই করতে জানে। খেলা শেষে মাথা নিচু করে সাজঘরে চলে আসার দিন আমাদের শেষ।
