Norton Anti Virus
I have been a longtime user of Norton Anti virus. I noticed a few months back that NAV was ineffective in dealing with virus such as redlof A. I then swithced over to eScan which is good but its user interface is quite user unfriendly.
Though I have lost faith in NAV, I am still a fan of Norton System works. Unfortunately NAV is part of Norton System Works. It was possible to uninstall NAV from Norton System Works 2000 but this feature seems to be absent in Norton System Works 2003.
Can someone in this forum suggest a way out to uninstall NAV from NSW 2003. Also can one suggest a good anti virus which is a real work horse and not a show pony that NAV is.

Best anti virus out there is:
http://www.avast.com/
It is free for home use. I have been using it for last 2 years without any problem. Updates itself automatically and never failed on me. I would rate it 100 times better than norton or any other anti-virus.
You can download the home version:

Thanks for the advice. I have removed NAV from my home computer and replaced it with Avast. It detected virus which NAV was unable to. It certainly looks a superior product.

never use avast, but i'll certainly try it out. as of nav, i think its the worst product that got the most popularity. just as a suggestoin, from all the AV i've use so far, (nav, McAfee, panda, ........ ) i find PC-Cillin the best. this is keeping avast aside since i never used it. pc cillin (by trend micro) is not free but who has problem finding cracks now a days? if someone used both can give me an opinion, i might switch to avast depending on that.

I use AVG. It's small, compact and highly effective. I never had any problems with it.

I don't mind if I get any thing free. So one of my friend ask to go to www.housecall.antivirus.com and get a free on line anti virus. i found that is awesome. Anyone check that.

i dunno why u think NAV is crappy... only prb is NAV 2004 onwards literally hogs all the resources.
I use fully updared NAV 2002... that was light. used 2k3 and 2k4 ad 2k5... but 2k2 just works for me.
