All of a sudden, our pace bowling future seems a bit brighter than we feared to be.
the observation of oz legend Geoff Lawson could be a silver lining for near future.
the way he analyzed our young pacers should be the guideline for our management to nurture them for future.
I took this opportunity to commence a countdown thread so that we may monitor the progress of these young boys.
Geoff Lawson's period as the specialist fast bowling coach for the GP-BCB National Cricket Academy ended yesterday with mostly encouraging words except for a warning that could greatly help the Tigers in the immediate future. The former Australian cricketer, who arrived on July 4, mainly worked with the pace bowlers in the 24-man Academy side. He also had sessions with discarded Test bowlers and observed national team and Under-19 fast bowlers as well. One of them, Rubel Hossain, looked slightly unfit to the one-time new-ball spearhead of the Australian team. "He [Rubel Hossain] needs a bit more fitness work. I haven't worked with him and just observed when he bowled in the Academy," said Lawson, who also opined that the Tigers' new-ball bowler needs to do work on his action. "I think he can do a bit of work in that as well. I watched him bowl for 30 minutes. "That [slingshot action] is a good thing to have. He does it a little bit but looks like he needs a little more work," he added. Lawson though was all-praise for the Academy pacemen who were picked for the programme after impressing in both domestic and age-level cricket. "I think they are no different from young Australian fast bowlers. That surprised me for some reason. There are 4-5 guys here who've improved rapidly. "They're basically young bowlers, just starting out. I've been highly impressed and technically they're very good," he said.
Having instilled in them the art of swinging the ball both ways, Lawson observed that most have side-on actions with the gangly Mohammad Al-Amin and Alauddin Babu impressing him the most.
"We have two left-handers who swing it, one is quicker (Kazi Kamrul Islam) than the other (Mohammad Rahee).
"Al Amin is tall, comes over the top. He's actually moving the ball both ways.
[Alauddin] Babu is quite a matured cricketer in many ways.
Mukhtar Ali has improved a lot but has a few things to right.
[Kamrul Islam] Rabbi bowls quite fast when he gets it right," explained Lawson, who will remain associated with the Academy as he will discuss reports with head coach Ross Turner after the South Africa tour next month.
But like many big names who have come into this part of the world, Lawson too believed that unless pitches are improved, fast bowlers won't be encouraged. "The thing that impedes the growth of fast bowling are pitches which are not good for fast bowling. The Academy pitches can do that, the bowlers see the edges carry. "But whenever I asked them what kind of pitches they play on, they say 'low bounce'. That makes it very hard to encourage guys to bowl fast," said Lawson.
and from my own observation, with a little risk, i am adding 16 yr old towering Taskin Ahmed Tazim in the list.
just after i've posted the poll, i remembered the name of Abul Hasan Raju.... the lad is recovering from injury and may outrace all of the above names.... !

Thanks a ton again Mo bhai.
Not having a good enough knowledge about all the bowlers listed on the poll, I'd vote for Babu, simply because he is a good pace allrounder in the making.

Rabbi is a very good prospect. He was flagged up to me by Shahriar Nafees as they play together. I worked with Rabbi for a little while and can confirm he is highly talented and has good pace. He is much quicker now than in the clip above by the way and his run up is far better. I think he has a future in the game and would predict he is one for the top.
There was some talk of him perhaps being a standby bowler for Rubel (as he had been carrying some injuries) at the World Cup at one stage, this is how impressively he bowled in the nets. He joined us in Chittagong and was excellent. Rabbi is a 'skiddy' bowler and this can surprise people.
There are some technical things he can improve but basically he has many things going for him. A huge thumbs up from me

i haven't seen most of them either. but the guy named TASKIN could be a huge thing. He is the guy whom i've followed last year and met him personally.
he has just completed his SSC and is a 1st year student, soft spoken but possesses that killer instinct. he has just broken into the scene last year (made his debu in the premier league.)
he told me a story of his own which goes like this:
his coach asked him to play in the 1st div. first but he insisted that he could play at the highest level. ultimately, he got a chance to prove himself in a practice match and his bowling figures in the 'challenge' (that was for him) match was 5-1-15-3! after that there was no looking back. he featured in all but one match for Old DOHS!
he was picked for the u-19 team that was scheduled to tour pakistan.
he is tall... comfortably above 6 ft.... may be around 6'-3", if not more, that too at this age!
the most encouraging fact about him is that he just goes out there to bowl fast! he wants to blow them away with pace....!
just wonder what a few months with Mr. Ian Pont or, at least, Mr. Geoff Lawson would've done to this budding kid ....!
i am not a specialist on pacers, but my instincts say....
this lad is a 'raw version of mash in-his-earlier-days!

If anyone of them is eveb close to what Mash was in his early days I ll be thrilled. Mash was no less promising than wasim akram or brett Lee. Posted via BC Mobile Edition (Android)
^yeah...remember the 2nd innings run he had vs the strong zim attack in the bangabandhu stadium?..that ball to get grant flower i think out was sheer pace!...i would realy love to have another mash without injury for bd team

I do remeber very well. Zim had to score 10 or 12 to win in the 2nd innigns and Mash made zim 4-2 in two mind blowing deliveries was on a hat tric. the 3rd one was also very good but was a bit higher. No other spell of fast bowling in the history of BD cricket was so commanding. Posted via BC Mobile Edition (Android)
What happened to Mah's brother Murshalin bin Mortaza? appreantly there was a thread about him where ppl & Mash himself said(in an interview) he is a very promising young pacer and can be better than Mash.
