This has become our habit, 1 wicket just before the end of session!

Are still at the same stage like we played last time in ZWE? Did BD cricket improved a bit in these years? Are we matured enough to hold the big match temperament at top level? Are our wins still limited to teams like Scotland or Nepal?

Tapash was sent as a night watchman. But they stopped the play anyway. Tapash has to bat tomorrow morning! And we will loose another wicket cheaply for nothing...

as a night watchman. just can't understand what's in whatmore's mind. To build up an innings, we should have gone for specialized batsmen. Whatmore could have had this experiment with Tapash in the practice match against Zimbabwe A. Is it not too much when a solid 241 runs are needed to avoid follow on?

I think thats why we send night watch man when its getting dark and eventually you know that another wicket would only cause the game to be called off. So, I dont see any problem sending tapash.

.. comon everyone.. this is test cricket!!
top teams always keep scoring above 400 or even 500!!.. and the pitch seems to bee good to bat on!..
BD shud be very very practical n start to draw tests before thinking of victory.. coz earning a draw isnt very easy either(atleast not for beginners like us)!!
i can say i wil be very happy with a draw in this test match... coz thts gonna be our first ever real draw (not counting the rain-washed match last time) !!!

when a team score most of their runs with the lower order, a debutant bowler ( GM Ewing 71) makes half century with ease, I doubt our improvement. And 400-500 cant be expected a standard test score. when u make 441 first innings, the game is over. We only play for draw now.
**correction he made 2 runs (!!) on his first test.

I don't think Gavin Ewing is a bowler, he is a specialist batsman who can bowl a bit.
I was away for class and other commitments, Grameen Phone's text messege service said that Bangladesh is 14 for no wicket, I was glad to see that Bangladesh didn't lose any wicket, but then when I saw the scorecard on Cricinfo at computer, I am dumb-founded!
And is Tapash such a good batsman to let him come in as a nightwatchman? But at least the idea of the nightwatchman is getting to the think tanks of our team management at last.

.. Lets just see wht we\'re realy worthy of!
... its just time BD team starts to prepare themselves to score above 350-400.. not just get scared by the opposition scoring high!
.. if we can do that.. thn we're worth of any kind of appriciation.. otherwise we're not!! :duh:

Of course I sound like a broken record now
but please lets not take Monju again on this tour. On the seaming wickets in England in the early part of next summer, if the national team strategists want to recall Monju, I won't complain. But on these Zimbabwe wickets, Monju is a waste of space. He has not even looked likely to take a wicket. Maybe he will take a couple next innings, I hope he does, but they definitely be in the form of the batters making mistakes.
Even Mushfiq pulled his weight towards the end of the Zimbabwe innings. But we can't take specialist bowlers who bowl 30 odd overs in an innings against Zimbabwe and come up empty handed. And even if he had looked threatening, would have been something.
A lot of people have argued that Aziz will go for runs. I don't mind that at all if he takes a few wickets too. If we had taken a few more wickets early, Zimbabwe would never have reached 441.
What makes me most mad is that we are playing the one team that we ought to look to beat. If we played this team against the Aussies, I wouldn't mind because th result wouldnt change one way or the other. But we might end up losing this test match because we went for the defensive option rather than going after the Zimbs and pushing for a win.

I am hopeless now! The seniors followed the juniors and gave away too many runs. I'm afraid the match is out of our hand now, we should try to save this test rather than trying to win. Aziz should get in for the next test and Manjural must be KICKED OUT!

hi guys - reading through is interesting.
1st - ewing is primarily a batsman but is called an allrounder ; he should score runs
2nd - zims lower order is better than their openners :-) so donīt be too harsh on your ladīs bowling in this respect - ervine was beggining to score in aus ..and streakīs recent ave is really good.
3rd - the main reason it looks like bangla hasnīt progressed since the last BD/Zim series (at least sb. here thought that) is cos zim have been coming along quickly recently as well. BD have *really* improved IMO.
4th - i try to follow all cricket but i am a new fan so i canīt talk in depth about the BD team. still, if they (the selectors)went for a "safe" option i agree it was a mistake but the one thing about that post i disagreed with was it saying "zim is the one team BD should be looking to beat" - thatīs far too defeatest, they nearly beat pak. zim IMO should have beaten WI - they should be looking to beat at least 5 of all the test teams.

Betterdaz,
I didn't mean Zimbabwe is the only team BD should look to beat. We should look to beat every team we take the field against. However, my point was, Zimbabwe is the last team we should have taken the defensive option against! I don't want to take anything away from Zimbabwe and the way they have played recently. But Zimbabwe still remains the easiest team for us to register our first win against. Its infuriating to have to put up with this bowling performance.

i knew you were not "belittling" zimbabwe - and you are right zim. certainly are the last team you should be defensive against.
my point was that BD, like zim, are constantly told they should be moved to a second tier/division or some nonsense , basically that we can only beat each other. i thought you were falling into that trap - thanks for clearing it up.
in fact zim and BD are getting competitive - not just with each other (--->see last test series for both).
*i suppose this should be discussed on the int. board - i donīt know how strict they are here. Well, enjoy the cricket tomorrow
