A Saudi diplomat was found dead at Ghulshan area in the capital early Tuesday.
Khalak al Ali, 45, a Saudi citizen and head of Citizens’ Affairs unit of Saudi Embassy in Dhaka, was shot once, Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, told The Daily Star.
“One of our diplomatic staff was killed near his house in Gulshan this morning. This is sad,” UNB quoted Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Al Bussairy as saying.
The killers might have shot the Saudi official somewhere else and dumped his body on the road in Gulshan, Khandker Lutful Kabir, deputy commissioner of Gulshan Division, told The Daily Star.
“Police did not see any sign of blood at the place the body was found,” he said.
Police said they first came to know about the killing from a security guard.
The bullet-hit body was lying on Road No. 117-120 around 1:20am, said OC Rafiqul Islam.
“The Saudi official was clad in a tracksuit,” he said.
When he was rushed to United Hospital, doctors said he had died much earlier, Lutful Kabir said.
Police could not ascertain the motive behind the killing immediately.
“We hope the government will catch the killers,”
Ambassador Bussairy said while talking to UNB.
This is the first time a foreign diplomat has been murdered in Bangladesh, added UNB.
Bangladesh has won a remarkable victory at the International Tribunal for Law of the Seas (ITLOS), securing the entitlement to the resources in the exclusive economic zone.
"We've got all we wanted," foreign minister Dipu Moni told bdnews24.com by phone from Hamburg, where the ITLOS is based.
The foreign minister said Bangladesh got more than it claimed in its dispute with Myanmar.
"Bangladesh claimed 107,000 square kilometres while it got 111,000 square kilometers area in the Bay of Bengal," she said.
"The court has given equitable solution on equi-distance basis," she said.
"The court also gave St Martin's a full effect," she said.
The full effect means Bangladesh has the territorial and economic rights surrounding the island up to 200 nautical miles toward continental shelf in an angle of 215 degrees.
"The ITLOS ruling, by a vote of 21 to 1, brings to a conclusion the case initiated by Bangladesh against Myanmar in December 2009, to resolve a longstanding dispute with regard to the maritime boundary in the oil-and-gas rich Bay," says a statement from the foreign ministry in Dhaka.
"The court sustained Bangladesh's claims to a full 200-mile exclusive economic zone in the Bay of Bengal, and to a substantial share of the outer continental shelf beyond 200 miles.
"President of the Tribunal, Jose Luis Jesus of Cape Verde, read the judgment in the Hamburg courtroom.
"The judgment is final and without appeal.
"All of our strategic objectives have been achieved," the foreign minister said.
"Bangladesh's full access to the high seas out to 200 miles and beyond is now recognised and guaranteed, as are our undisputed rights to the fish in our waters and the natural resources beneath our seabed."
The Tribunal also awarded Bangladesh a full 12-mile territorial sea around St. Martin's Island, rejecting Myanmar's argument that it should be cut in half.
The High Court has ordered authorities to shut five Facebook pages and a website for hurting people's religious sentiments and identify the responsible.
The bench of justices Mirza Hossain Haider and Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar issued the interim order on Wednesday.
The home secretary, information secretary, inspector-general of police and the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission have been told to implement the order.
The court also ordered to investigate and identify the people responsible.

^^ Yeah. We just had the leftover shakes.
Nothing major. About 3.4 in Dhaka (heard on the news).
But still was good enough for one building to "hele pora".

Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin, director of Muslim spiritual care provision in the NHS, a trustee of the major British charity Muslim Aid and a central figure in setting up the Muslim Council of Britain, fiercely denies any involvement in a number of abductions and "disappearances" during Bangladesh's independence struggle in the 1970s.
He says the claims are "politically-motivated" and false.
However, Mohammad Abdul Hannan Khan, the chief investigator for the country's International Crimes Tribunal, said: "There is prima facie evidence of Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin being involved in a series of killings of intellectuals.
"We have made substantial progress in the case against him. There is no chance that he will not be indicted and prosecuted. We expect charges in June."
Mr Mueen-Uddin could face the death penalty if convicted.
BNP powerful leader and ex Sylhet MP M Illius Ali was kidnapped by some unknown group last Tuesday night from Dhaka banani.IF it is done by BAL government’s agency and he remain missing or death it will be beginning of end for BAL government IF not it will create CHAOS in Sylhet. He was outspoken and strong against India's border killing and Tipai Mukh Dam. It is an attack on Sylhet’s heart.
I don't support any party in BD except anyone works for the country. I liked him only because he did keep his promises and tried to develop his constituency. In Sylhet people loves him because of his work in short period of time. Kidnapping, killing, vengeance and revenge politics will only lead BD backward. Bangladesh already 100 years behind compares to westerns countries. These two ladies will make sure it is 300 years backward when they leave power and they will only leave power until death takes their soul.
I hear Sylhet's gone crazy over this kidnapping. I heard his name back when I was in BD, my dad just told me he is huge is Sylhet now, even bigger than Saifur Rahman.
Hattrick of Hartals. Has this ever happened before? Can anyone recall?
