Default Shakib Al Hasan, the next Bangladesh Captain

It may sound jumping in to conclusion to few Bangla Cricket members.

But I feel it is time now to get Ashraful out of this responsibility. He may be a good batsman but by no means a good leader. Good leaders set examples. Ashraful lacks that maturity. Person like Shakib, Tamim learn from their mistakes. Ash doesn't belong to that group.

Let Ash play as Batsman and contribute as much as he can towards cricket of Bangladesh. We all know that he is capable and has lot to deliver. Please don't spoil this talent with added responsibility.

I didn't come to conclusions with the performance of 3rd and 4th ODI with Pakistan. Those who follow Bangladesh cricket will probably agree that Shakib is really a Captain material, which Ash is not.

Another aspect to be looked in to is the batting order. After openers, Aftab can come to take the advantage of powerplay. But it does make sense Ash to come at the fall of Aftab. Shakib and Mahmudullah should go up the order. Ash should come down the order. May be sixth.

Hear we go again.....our stupid nature will never change....Reaz Miah, u are just as bad as BCB...Bottom line is that BD are just not good enough because of this nonsense and who ever is the captain/ coach, it wont make BD win more regularly unless they look for term development in BD and stop fastracking players....

Keep him CAPTAIN for warm up matches as he did against SA. That way he will get more experience as CAPTAIN.

I love the prospect and would have been pleased to see him dubbed the captain instead of Ash in the first place, but at the time he was still only a year old in the team. Also, I think it is more important to give him some more time to develope as a player. Not everyone is Grame Smith !

But if ever given the added responsibility, I do not see this kid succumbing to pressure as much as Ash. For all I know, Habibul Bashar at least had a cool head on his shoulder for most of the part he captained. Ashraful is a little bit irrational at times and pretty dire with the field setup and seems completely lost with the plot at times.

From whatever we have seen of Shakib's captaincy, he is good, very good indeed !

sigh.... true we want some form of the old Ash back by relieving him of captaincy, but I think we want something even more: not to push anymore people down the 'Ashraful Path'....

If we want to screw up another players career, then go right ahead. He maybe the next captain but not right now. I say wait another 4 years before he becomes Captain. By becoming a strong performer does not translate Captain and neither does being a Captain mean you do not have to perform and just ride on others. A successful team performs together. If one fails, the other player needs to compensate, but if there is uniform failure, the whole team fails. Thats what happened today, but Shakib saved our face. Kudos for winning the Man of the Match, he deserves it. And on a side note, i wonder what the heat was JS was talking about.

If Sakib doesnt perform in the next couple of matches, your opinion will take a turn. Yes i also dont like the idea of Ashraful as the captain. He is shrewd, but lacks the maturity as you point out. Plus his own performance has been terrible. But unfortunately i dont see any other players capable enough of taking the captaincy role.

I think he will be a future captain of the Bangladesh team in the near future, I just don't want to see it within the next year or two.

The captaincy puts a lot of pressure on a player, and we don't want the few performers to have this extra pressure and fail, then our team won't have any performers.

One, or even two swallows doesn't make the whole summer. He's got a long way to go. Presently, Moyna Asraful ke apni koira kotha koy. He's considered a junior in the team. He does not have a position of any authority.

One the other hand, we bc members have a history of asking to make someone a captain. Here are some similar ones from the past.

Razzak as Captain:

Let him continue to play without pressure. He may be capable of becoming a good captain. But playing good is not enough to be a captain.

Let him get more matured and consistent as a player.

Captaincy can't be used as a gift. It puts a lot of pressure on a player, got to remember that as well.
