কোচ খুঁজছে বিসিবি। বাতাসে ভাসছে অনেক নাম। সৌরভ গাঙ্গুলী থেকে শুরু করে কেপলার ওয়েসেলস-টম মুডি—সব নামই শোনা হয়ে গেছে। যদিও নতুন কোচ নিয়োগের কাজ এখনো প্রাথমিক পর্যায়েই।

আবেদনপত্র জমা দেওয়ার সময়সীমাই এখনো শেষ হয়নি। সেটি ১৫ মে পর্যন্ত। প্রধান কোচ ছাড়াও বোলিং, ফিল্ডিং এবং ব্যাটিংয়ে বিশেষজ্ঞ কোচ নেওয়া হবে। পরবর্তী সিরিজ খেলতে বাংলাদেশ জিম্বাবুয়ে রওনা হবে আগামী ২৮ জুলাই। বিসিবি চাইছে, জুনের মাঝামাঝি সময়ের মধ্যেই নতুন কোচরা কাজ শুরু করে দিক।

বোর্ড সূত্রে জানা গেছে, বিজ্ঞাপন দেখে আবেদনকারীর সংখ্যা এখন পর্যন্ত ছয়-সাত জন। এঁদের মধ্যে বাংলাদেশ দলের সাবেক বোলিং কোচ ইয়ান পন্ট, ভারতের রবিন সিং ও ভেঙ্কটেশ প্রসাদের নাম শোনা যাচ্ছে। এ ছাড়া বাংলাদেশ কোচ খুঁজছে জেনে আরও সাতজন বিদেশি কোচ ই-মেইলে জীবনবৃত্তান্ত পাঠিয়ে বিসিবিকে তাঁদের আগ্রহের কথা জানিয়েছেন। বিসিবি থেকে ফিরতি ই-মেইলে প্রত্যেকের কাছে জানতে চাওয়া হয়েছে, তাঁরা দীর্ঘ মেয়াদে দায়িত্ব নিতে এবং জুনের মাঝামাঝি সময়ের মধ্যে কাজ শুরু করতে রাজি আছেন কিনা। এ ছাড়া কে কোন বিভাগে কোচ হতে চান, সেটা উল্লেখ করে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে আবেদন করতেও পরামর্শ দেওয়া হয়েছে এই কোচদের।

বোর্ডের একটি সূত্রে জানা গেছে, বিজ্ঞাপন দেখে আবেদনকারীদের চেয়ে স্বেচ্ছায় আগ্রহ দেখানোদের মধ্যেই হাই প্রোফাইল কোচ বেশি। তালিকায় আছেন দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার সাবেক কোচ এবং ইংলিশ কাউন্টি দল কেন্টের দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকান কোচ গ্রাহাম ফোর্ড, সাবেক অস্ট্রেলিয়ান ক্রিকেটার ও বর্তমানে শ্রীলঙ্কার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কোচ স্টুয়ার্ট ল, সাবেক অস্ট্রেলিয়ান পেসার ও বর্তমানে আইপিএলের দল পাঞ্জাব কিংস ইলেভেনের বোলিং কোচ জেসন গিলেস্পি, দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার সাবেক পেসার এবং ইংল্যান্ড ও নিউজিল্যান্ডের সাবেক বোলিং কোচ অ্যালান ডোনাল্ড, ইংল্যান্ড লায়ন্সের ইংলিশ কোচ মিক নিউয়েল, দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার ডেভ নসওর্দি এবং নিউজিল্যান্ডের মাইক হ্যাসন। নাম প্রকাশ না করার শর্তে বিসিবির একজন পরিচালকও নিশ্চিত করেছেন এই কোচদের আগ্রহের বিষয়টি।
এর আগে টম মুডি ও কেপলার ওয়েসেলসের নাম শোনা গেলেও তাঁদের সম্ভাবনা আর নেই বললেই চলে। এই দুই কোচই স্বল্প মেয়াদে দায়িত্ব নিতে চান। কিন্তু বিসিবি নতুন কোচকে অন্তত দুই বছরের জন্য দায়িত্ব দিতে চায়।

আবেদনকারীদের কারও নাম না বললেও কোচ বাছাই-প্রক্রিয়া সম্পর্কে ধারণা দিয়েছেন বিসিবি পরিচালক গাজী আশরাফ হোসেন, ‘আবেদনকারীদের মধ্য থেকে বাছাই করে একটি সংক্ষিপ্ত তালিকা করা হবে। তারপর পছন্দের ক্রমানুসারে তাঁদের সঙ্গে আলোচনা করা হবে। হাই প্রোফাইল কোচদের ক্ষেত্রে সাক্ষাৎকারের প্রয়োজন আছে বলে আমি মনে করি না। এসব ক্ষেত্রে টার্মস অ্যান্ড কন্ডিশন নিয়ে আলোচনায় একমত হওয়াটাই আসল কথা।’ গাজী আশরাফের ব্যক্তিগত মতামত, প্রধান কোচ অস্ট্রেলিয়া, ইংল্যান্ড বা দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা থেকে হলেই ভালো হয়।

বিসিবির ঝোঁকটা এবারও ব্যাটিং-নির্ভর কোচের দিকে। বাংলাদেশ দলে যেহেতু বাঁহাতি ব্যাটসম্যান বেশি, কোচও সাবেক কোনো বাঁহাতি ব্যাটসম্যান হলেই বেশি ভালো মনে করে বোর্ড। তবে কোচিং ক্যারিয়ার ভালো থাকলে নতুন কোচের খেলোয়াড়ি অতীত খুব ভালো না হলেও সমস্যা নেই, এমন মত গাজী আশরাফের।

জাতীয় দলের সাবেক অধিনায়ক ও সাবেক সহকারী কোচ খালেদ মাহমুদেরও একই মত। নতুন কোচের কাছে চাহিদাটাও জানালেন তিনি, ‘এই পর্যায়ের কোচ ট্যাকটিক্যালি ভালো হওয়ারই কথা। তবে প্রয়োজন হলো, খেলোয়াড়দের অনুপ্রাণিত করতে পারেন এমন কোচ। কেউ হয়তো খারাপ সময়ের মধ্য দিয়ে যাচ্ছে বা কেউ ধারাবাহিকতার অভাবে ভুগছে, কোচ যেন তাদের বেশি সময় দেন। তাদের অনুপ্রাণিত করেন।’

বাংলাদেশের প্রথম টেস্ট অধিনায়ক নাঈমুর রহমান নিশ্চিত করতে চান অন্য একটি বিষয়, ‘যে-ই কোচ হয়ে আসুন, তিনি যেন অতীতের মতো সিনিয়র ক্রিকেটারদের বাদ দিয়ে দিতে না পারেন। এতে দলে শূন্যতার সৃষ্টি হয়। তা ছাড়া কোচের সঙ্গে মতপার্থক্যের কথা জানাতে পারে, এমন খেলোয়াড়ও যেন দলে থাকে।’ এ ক্ষেত্রে নির্বাচকদেরই আসল ভূমিকা দেখছেন নাঈমুর, ‘দল নিয়ে নাড়াচাড়াটা কোচের কাজ নয়। ছাড় পেতে পেতে আমাদের কোচরা অনেক সময় অনধিকার চর্চা করে ফেলে। এ ক্ষেত্রে নির্বাচকদের আরও শক্ত অবস্থান নিতে হবে।’

India almost had Ford before they went for Kirsten. If I could remember Ford had family commitment hence decided not to join india. He must have been gutted after watching India win the WC.

So we have few fast bowling coaches applying for the Head Coach job. I will be happy if one of them gets the job. Time to change things up and change the cricket culture in BD.

Ford is the man.. He didnt want to be India's coach because of family commitments and I wonder if he would like to come to BD for 2 years. Donald/Pont will be ideal fo the bowling department. Even jason Gillespie could be handy. Atleast he could teach our batsman a thing or two. (remember his 240+ innings against us?)

This is great news, knowing that coaches with such great stature are willing to coach Bangladesh really tells us a story. I would be jumping up and down for 11 days if Graham Ford takes over, Allan Donald and Stuart Law would be my second choices.

Nottinghamshire coach Mick Newell will work with the England Lions during their forthcoming tour of the West Indies, reprising a role he played in 2009 when the Under-19s travelled to Bangladesh.

Newell is highly-rated within the game having guided Nottinghamshire to the 2010 LV= County Championship title and built a side that consistently challenges on all fronts.

“Mick is one of the most highly regarded coaches currently working within our domestic game and his cricketing knowledge and coaching skills will be hugely beneficial to the England Lions in the Caribbean," Hugh Morris, Managing Director of England cricket said.

This is indeed great news to see so many good coaches are interested to take over the role of head coach. Before this, all the talk of Robin Singh, Prasaad, Inzamam was begining to worry me a little bit but now I am relieved!
Graham Ford, Stewart Law or Mick Newell would be my pick

Whoever gets the final nod must make sure we develop our pace attack and make them play a major role in our games... The overdose of spin on slow wickets might have worked in one series against NZ but in the end proved useless in the World Cup. I hope the new coach will look at 3 pacer + 2 spinner combination

I think, all these 7 high profile coaches are after Head Coach position. But it will be wise on Gillespie, Donald's part that they go for "Specialist Bowling Coach" rather than Head Coach position ! Btw, what about Julien ? I thought BCB would re-new his contract.

This is awesome! I really wanted Tom Moody as our head coach but looking at how there are just as capable candidates wanting the job acts as consolation. Graham Ford actually managed to impress BCCI and was their original choice ahead of Gary Kirsten. And on the other hand Mick Newell is the man behind Nottinghamshire, the current County Championship holders. These two are tied as my first choice simply because of their head coaching experience. Ford would be just ahead with his International experience.

Would be amazing if we could pull off a double coup by getting one of them as head coach and either Donald or Gillespie as bowling coach.
