Default Champaka Ramanayake

He's now been the bowling coach for a considerable length of time for bangladesh national team. to me personally, his work took its time to show. people were lambasting him, what has he done? pace attack is really poor...shahadat? changed his bowling action. wheres robin?? sajidul islam?? the list goes on......

however, suddenly we come into year 2010. and out of nowere we get a whole new differnent look to the bd pace bowling lineup. shafiul islam??? this guy looks real quality, and ive heard ramanayake has worked alot with him. rubel seems to be improving.
shahadat looked great in the india test and had surely improved from late 2008/2009. but then again, his showing in NZ was poor.
so whats your take on this guys? has champaka ramanayake done enough, are we satisfied with him?
or shal we look for a new coach???

shahadat was OK in ODI's. he was economical than others though did not get many wickets. he was very bad in the 1st innings but 2nd innings he was good. so u cant sat he had a poor show.

i think in BD pitches he bowls better.

Shahadat don't listen to Champaka's advice......thats his fault...

anyway i think BCB will stick with him until WC.

shafiul will lead bangladesh pace attack for years , he is intelligent he bowls with his head : good line and lenght , he will be a world class pacer .
Rubel got the pace but really need to improve his line and lenght

Rajib has significantly lost his line, Nazmul is totally in disarray and Rubel only who already knew he has the pace still has a long way to fix his testing line. Shafiul is not a product of Champaka.

And even Shafiul has his problems - too many at this time if you ask me. Our pace bowling is far from competitive. Faaaaar from it.

Same here Asif bhai, it seems that he has been out of the team for ages. Please Mash make a golden comeback and show what you're made off.

Not sure. Shafiul is new to the scene and Rubel hasn't improved much. If they can get a high-profile coach onboard then ok but if not let's just stick with Champaka for now.

What really impresses me about Shafiul is his variety in his bowling. If needed, he can bowl 4-5 balls in an over in the right area. He can surprise the batsmen with the short delivery and he's got a pretty decent slower ball.

I think that his variety will be evident in the ODI format when players will try to hit him hard whereas his discipline will be evident in the Test format. I'm excited about Shafiul.

so far it seems asif we think hes done a satisfactory job.
interesting this, because if this question was asked 3months ago, im pretty sure most of us said he hasnt done too well.
it seems asif only days ago thread after thread was opening questioning our pace bowling, or lack of it.
if now it is satisfactory, then it means the performance curve for champaka is rising.
and im confident that shafiul and rubel can improve further and spearhead the bd attack for a long time to come

I still feel that the fast bowlers should have improved much better under him, and I think that BD needs a new fast bowling coach before WC 2011. Ramanayke does not have anythig new to offer BD.

Shafiul has a rare ability to make the ball rise sharply from good length. Something you don't expect from a bowler of his build. Saying that, he needs to fix his landing foot. He may be the leading Bangladeshi pacer in near future.
Rubel has improved a lot. But still, he bowls a bit shorter than he should also he bowls too many freebies. If he can control the runs he will be the most lethal pacer in BD.
Rajib looked pretty decent in the recent games, except the NZ test. His line/length have improved, but his wicket taking deliveries are becoming scarce.
So, overall I think Champaka definitely gets pass mark, but not letter marks :P. Hopefully he will help Shafiul/Rubel become world beaters.

Champaka Ramanayake is a good coach, it just didn't happen here in Bangladesh, maybe it is just our bad luck, but I have good respect for this guy.

it took time, but finally i see us reaping the rewards.
hope masri comes back strong, and then we will have a prety decent bowling lineup imo

champaka's contract to finish on 31st march. is somebody better available currently, possibly a former aussie, wi or sa FAST bowler, if available perhaps e need a change. champaka has done a good job, but i feel he has done what he can offer. now need somebody to further nourish this bunch of fast bowlers

I agree! he has nothing new to offer BD. They should get someone with fresh ideas,
someone, maybe from australia or South Africa.
Whilst they are at it, they should get a strong fielding coach, for recently too many catches have been dropped and we have seen some sloppy fielding.

Way beyond my expectation. Shafiul's line and lenght, slower ball. All Rubel needs is a slower yorker.

Champaka should work with Dollar Mahmud, Talha, Robin. They got the talent, but needs polishing on their bowling.

rubel needs also a slower bouncer. and also turning the shiny side in the opposite way when getting reverse swing and thus get some outswing. that will puzzle the batsmen when they will expect both in and out swing.

where is ian botham or aaquib javed, or courtney walsh ???? all of them could be good coaches

Looks like he might be coming back, although as HP bowling coach.

Veteran coach, very experienced. But i would have preferred BCB going for Vaas. Fresher ideas.
