Help regarding Universities in UK
Can anyone here from UK give me some advice on the following Universities. How would you rank them regarding their Social Science/Economics programs? I was planning on transferring to one of these Universities for a semester. I can only apply to 3 out of the 5 I listed. Also what about the social aspects of these Universities? How diverse is the Student Body?
Thanks
1. University of Leeds
2. Bristol University
3. Warwick University
4. Sheffield University
5. University of Strathclyde

Guardian UK University league tables for Economics, 2011:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/...uide-economics
Personally I can tell you that Warwick and Bristol are both very good universities and are quite popular among students in the UK. Warwick particularly is very prestigious and is a member of the Russell Group of Universities (as is Bristol).
In terms of the social side Bristol has the edge over Warwick. Bristol is a very vibrant (as well as interesting) part of the country with the beach and all. And it is just a couple of hours away by train from London.
In terms of student body a quick wiki search shows that Warwick has more students but both have roughly the same number of undergraduates. As for diversity I would presume Bristol is the more diverse of the two although I don't have any statistics to support that.
I suggest you do your own thorough research before coming to a conclusion.

Thanks so much. I have done quite a bit of research. So far it pretty much echoes what you said. But I think input from UK residences are very vital aswell.

I would rank Bristol being the most established/reputable with a decent academic atmosphere and job prospects for their undergraduates.

I am only going to be there for a semester. So I would like an university that will give me the best of education and culture.

Warwick is generally more popular amongst international students and also ranked quite highly last year, particularly in the disciplines you want to study. In terms of location, Bristol probably has the edge. But Warwick is situated in between Warwickshire and Coventry, so at least you get access to both.

Then I would say, go to university in London.

Because the first two are rather excellent and the third not so bad either in certain branches of humanities.

well i would throw Bath university into the mix which is just down the road from bristol. Both are very good universities, i study at bath uni and have friends at bristol uni but offer very different student experiences. Bath is located in a peaceful tranquil area and very ideal for a student community. It is also a heritage city with lots of history and culture to explore.
To add what has already been said about bristol uni, i find it very difficult to navigate around different campuses and all the colleges are spread out and can be awkward to find your way around whereas bath uni has one big campus.
I would ignore the rankings (link above) especially when it says uwe is ranked higher than bath n bristol for economics when most of the students there are bath n bristol uni rejects!

Thanks for your input. Bath is not an option for me though.
